What a huge loss for everyone who knew and loved him. We are so saddened by this news. We remember the pain in our own community when we lost a similarly extraordinary officer last year during a sniper rampage in Moscow. I know Rebekka and Meg made a commitment to regularly remember his wife and send little gifts over time. It's hard to understand why sometimes the people who live such exemplary lives are taken from us prematurely. Kay, if there is anything we can send to Patti to let her know we are grieving for her, please let us know.

Thank you MaryJane for your kind words. We found out today that Patti may not be eligible for widow's benefits because Mark was not on duty when he was killed. A fund for the family has been set up at Key Bank. The following are two articles that came out in today's Oregonian. They say it all about what kind of man Mark was.

Patti and her family are in my prayers... and all who knew and loved Mark, also. I cannot imagine their grief.

I am so sorry to hear about this. It is so hard to understand such a senseless death. Praying that all those affected will be strong in this difficult time. Thanks, Kay, for keeping us informed.

Thank you all so much! Missy & I were talking tonight and if anyone would like to send a card it could be mailed to me and I will make sure that Patti gets it. She has been staying in Portland with her sister and is not at her farm. You can send to:
