My DH has Severe IBS, Our Dr has refereed him over to a Specialist at OSU to try to get it under control. It's so bad that somedays he can't make it out of the house/Work. He is on his way to severe depression, this has changed our life drastically, taking the kids to a park is becoming a chore even due to no bathrooms around. I'm not one to complain and trying to keep his chin up. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers in the coming months, He sees the Specialist in May and has a Hide-A-Scan next week.

Sure will, Heather. I'm sure he just feels terrible and yes, that gets you down. Will be thinking of him, you and your family...keep us posted on the results.

Hi Heather,
Have you and your DH looked @ what is causing the IBS? For instance gone online and looked @ symptoms/causes & then tried to work on the cause?

I am studying Holistic Nutrition @ Clayton College & one of my books, "Healthy Healing" says this about IBS: "Over 70 million Americans suffer from a digestive disorder. Irritable Bowel Syndrome affects as many as one in five U.S. adults! A chronically inflamed, painful colon, IBS is often a result of food allergies (65%), usually a gluten reaction to wheat, or cheese, corn or eggs. Lactose intollerance symptooms mimic those of IBS and colitis. Most victims are women between 20 and 40 with stressful jobs or lifestyles. Colon membranes become irritated and inflamed, and the body forms pouchy pockets in reaction...
The most notable culprit is our modern diet with excessively processed foods and sugar loaded foods, accompanied by a lack of fresh foods that supply natural fiber and enzymes. Food allergies to this type of diet play a part, so do yeast diseases like CANDIDA ALBICANS, and parasites, which may infest up to one in 6 Americans today. Dutch tests show up to 20% of IBS sufferers have a lactose sensitivity. (A lactose free diet reduced IBS hospital stays by 75%!) Other research show 78% of IBS patients have overgrowth of abnormal bacteria in the small intestine which is aggravated by too many antibiotics which reduce immune response. Too many non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that damage the gut lining are another major factor. Heavy smokers and coffee drinkers are at higher risk, as are tense and anxious people under long emotional stress or depression."

I had to be on a Candida (trigger-foods elimination) diet for months to releive my IBS symptoms...adding probiotics along with digestive enzymes before meals helped, but more than anything, it was eliminating the trigger foods that made the difference.

If you want to know more about Diet and Lifestyle Support Therapy, let me know. I can pass along the info from my books.

You might want to look through a book called "Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook" by Jeanne Marie Martin, esp. pgs 39 - 41

As usual, dear one, I'm sending healing energy and peace to you and your family. IBS is a part of Fibromyalgia that visits me every once in a while so I know how hard it is for him.
