we do pretty well financially, but we still obviously conserve our resources and I purchase as little as possible and thankfully, a lot of homeschool product sites have a lot of freebeeis!
Saxon Math is a math system that we use here and they also have a lot of free activites for kids, like time tests for math (I loved those when I was a kid!) etc...

have fun! the freebeeis are on the left hand side under the header "primary math resources and I believe it is the same throughout. Grace is at level 3 in the primary kit and we really very much enjoy saxon and it works here-even though we are unschoolers-because Grace WANTS to do it. She loves to do math and reading and is excelling at both!
SO I recommend Saxon-it's a bit steep but the kits are pretty comprehensive though there are a few other things you have to buy to go along with them, but you can usually find those online on ebay...

Hey! I love free!
Thanks for the advice on Saxon. I've used a lot of Math-U-See stuff and it's simplicity in form is very visually pleasing to my easily distracted child.
We spend very little...curriculum wise.....on our schooling. We spend way too much on supplies.....arts, crafts, books for pleasure, scrapbooking, etc.... Our library is a fantastic resource. I'm able to access the library system and research at home, make orders for the books I need and then just pick them up. The librarians are super and very attentive. Often, I'll walk in and one of them has pulled something they thought might interest us.
Now that one of mine is in high school, I bought my first "real" curriculum. It's Switched On Schoolhouse from AlphaOmega Publishing. I really didn't like the idea of going traditional but since she's preparing for college I opted to go this direction. She is thriving on it. All the years of hands on foundation have prepared her for self-disciplined study. The hardest thing was my letting go of being so involved in everything.
Here's something free I've utilized for years.....Museum websites. Almost all museums have an educational part of the site where lesson plans relating to their exhibits can be downloaded. Our Museum of History and Natural Science here in Houston also has a virtual tour of the exhibits. So, if you can't make it there you can get a basic tour online.
