I just finished an embroidery on muslin material. I want to tea stain it before I frame it. Do I dip it in hot tea water or cold tea water? Anything else I should know?

I just soak mine in Tea for however long I want, the longer the soak the darker the stain..I find that hot or cold does not make a difference, in my opinion.

So how did the embroidery turn out?

Heather,
Thanks for the info. I will probably tea stain it tomorrow. I will take a picture of it when I get it in a frame. But if I never mention it again, don't ask HA.

Nancy Jo, I have been tea dying for YEARS. It's the same principal as wine and cooking, don't use tea you wouldn't drink! The entire procedure depends upon what you want the end result to be - email me if you need help. Do you remember that photo I sent recently of the sampler I did hanging by the front door? Hannah

shouldn't you do the tea stain on the fabric b/4 the embroidery? Or doesn't the tea affect the floss that much?

tea staining is such a fun way to give things a vintage look, sometimes i'll tea stain a doily or something similar to "antique" it...

Life is too short to be narrow minded.

I wonder if that rooibos "tea" would make kind of a reddish stain...never tried it, just have used the regular tea...
