I finally got my first quilt finished. You can't see much of it in this picture, but you've got to admit my grandson is cuter, but I did get it done in time to give my daughter for Christmas, who is also there in the picture.

The name of the pattern was Broken Dishes. I made it queen size and I tied it because I knew I would never get it quilted in time for Christmas. Boy, did I ever get tired of tying those little knots.

I am very envious of you ladies who can turn out five or six quilts a year, I don't see how you do it. But I have started a new one. I would like for each one of my kids to have at least one quilt a piece.

I just hope it doesn't come apart when she washes it.

Wonderful quilt, Kathy. I would like to try quilting but just don't do it, so I am in the adoption line after Nancy Jo. MB

It is SO pretty Kathy!! I ended up tying two quilts that I gave as Christmas gifts this year too. It is quicker for sure!! I love the broken dishes pattern!!
I bet your daughter was thrilled! And your little grandson is such a cutie!

it all depends on the pattern you use to how fast you can make it and of course what size you make it.
great job by the way

Great job! You will get faster the more you do it- even hand quilting goes really fast after a few yrs of practice. I NEVER thought I could get each kid(5) a quilt before I was too old to do it- but I have done far more than 1 each- You will too!

Blessings,

That is a beautiful quilt~ Each of my four siblings and I all have a quilt made for us by my mom. I remember when I moved away to Dallas for a year I missed my family so much but when I walked in my bedroom and saw the quilt spread out on my bed I would just sit there and cuddle up in it and feel so much closer to home. I remember when I was younger, mom made several "tied" quilts but I guess she got tired of tying those teeny knots too because she now handquilts more than a couple of quilts a year for different people and occasions : ) I think quilts have such a special way of holding in alot of love from their makers hands, because you know that in every stitch and every block of fabric you were on their mind as they stitched it together. You go girl! Hope your busily quilting for a looong time : )

Kathy - I have had to give a quilt before I was finished quilting it, too. Then, before it got washed the first time, I would visit the person I gave it to with my needle and thread, and quilt away on it. I did this with my grand-daughter's quilts. As time went on, it was quilted to the point I knew it would not bunch up when washed. The great thing about quilting, if you do it by hand, is that you can always pick it up and keep going! And in the winter, it feels good to put a quilt across your lap and get a little work done at the same time.

Oh, and by the way, the quilt and you family are all adorable! Good picture!

It is awesome! Nothing feels more like a hug than wrapping up in a quilt from someone special. I made my bestfriend one for Christmas this year and the whole family loved it. That one was just simple color blocked because of a great large patterened fabric I just had to use, but I prefer the quilt in a day method. With 4 kids I never get them done in a day, but at least I get them done! I am looking for ocean greens and blues to make one for my bed next.
