Calling all Farmgirls Old and New! If you are planning on participating in the All Farmgirl Travel Guide, please have your submissions to me for an end of April "hot off the presses" Farmgirl Travel Guide!

4/2/08: Alrighteee then...we're off and running!!!! I'm so excited about this girls, and hope you are too!! I'm just going to post the names of folks who I've received info from, and who originally offered to help out. I realize that some of us farmgirls are no longer with us or off doing other farmgirl things....so without further ado:

Here's who I have to start (if you wouldn't mind reminding me of your forum id since I've received some emails directly--I'd like to identify you all ways , and if you have sent me your submission and DON'T see you name--contact me. My "junk" filters have been working overtime it seems.

If you need a refresher on what I'm looking for, read the following:

From my first posting:
"There are so many of us Farmgirls from so many places, even within the same state. What are your favorite local haunts? I'd like to create a Farmgirl Travel Guide for those of us on the forum, so if I'm ever in say, Stanwood Washington (where Marybeth lives, and Marybeth isn't home), I can do the things that Marybeth loves to do...which is probably what I'd want to do anyway--the key is this: When in Rome...you do what the locals do, eat what the locals eat, etc...to find the true blue hidden wonders of those towns and surrounding areas."

So, submissions would be things like:
Restaurants-what farmgirl DOESN'T like food?
Groceries/Farmers Markets-for camping, buying organics for picnics, etc..
Antique stores-self explanatory
Thrifts-" "
Sewing, knitting, notions stores-" "
Local Crafting--things made by locals that you can only get in your area- I like to buy local and handmade. I know you do too.
history and musuems
Geological interests (parks/hiking,etc.)

If there is a website, list it. If there is a phone, list it. But definitely (at the very least) a tangible address--List the city, and maybe what larger city/area it's near, if any.

I'd be very willing to work on this if anyone else is interested in having a guide. We can update it bi-annually, or as things come (and go)...I will compile the information under categories, cities, regions.

I am posting a list after this posting of who has already submitted and what regions are being covered...

Great. I'm excited--we all get around, we just don't know where and when and you can keep it handy in the glove box or whatever!

The more the merrier--that's the point

I'm shooting for a spring(ish) release date, just before we do our planning for vacations in the summer thru autumn.

I thought, too, you could explain WHY it's cool to you..just a blurb--like my favorite restaurant has 15 soups, all day everyday. They vary, all organic, and lots of vegetarian options....something like that.

That's a terrific idea! I know in my area, there are loads of little holes in the wall, mom and pop places and historical places that don't get recognized by the travel bigwigs. We could help out our local businesses this way!

I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by. ~anon

Very good idea--and I hadn't even thought of it that way, helping out local business...I was selfishly thinking of all the cool stuff I miss because I can't find any information about say, Wanamaker, Indiana!!!

KY gurls r the best!!! So smart and witty! This is a great idea. Maybe one day in the future Mary Jane could publish a "Farmgirls across the World" book with all the info....like a 'where and how they live'.

Through the past couple of years I've seen posts about a gal going to visit a location and asking for info. There were always farmgirls to give great hints and advice. I bet some of those could be found in archive.

Blessings

I'd be interested in contributing, in case there are any Farmgirls who want to take a jaunt up to Ontario, Canada! There is so much going on in my area. This sounds like a great idea.

Oh, I would love to contribute something too...I lOVE to travel and I would love to have a guide like this! I know in our area, we have several farm markets and some local farms as well as great antique stores

DH and I have been to many locales too and I have collected lots of neat info that could go into a book like this. Good, local places to eat, sleep and have a good time....it is a nice "break" from all of the chain places...plus you are really sustaining the economy in that area. We stayed last summer (on our way back from Florida)at a place in near Ashville, NC called the Log Cabin Motor court...it was so neat, everyone stayed in a neat little cabin...too bad that next morning we had to head home!

I'm excited!!!
My husband and I make a point of travelling and eating local, shopping local, etc...
One of my biggest fears in my little life is "not knowing"...I once wanted to be the person who places the "county line" markers on all roads because just THINK of all the roads out there that have wild, wonderful, interesting things on them that aren't on any map or considered "worthy" by mainstream..

Farmgirls think outside the box!!! Oh, I also forgot another category could be your favorite greehouses and nurseries!

What a terrific idea, Jonni! Are you wanting us to email you with the information, or just post it under this topic and you will cut and paste it into a single travel guide to be emailed back out?

What fun!

Jonni, I'd like to contribute to this also. How about geological features as a category? We have a few here that are well worth the hike.

Wonderful!

Sorry, I was out to lunch and now I'm SO glad to be back.

Yes, yes--geolical formations would be great! Those could fall under an "outback" section.

I was thinking, I would be very worried about (me) missing information posted in a thread, so if you wouldn't mind emailing me after you've compiled your personal list, I'd appreciate it...What I'll do is save each in a state/country/province folder on my system, labeled with your name. That way, I always have it handy.

Any other suggestions you girls have, hop to it. This is a "Farmgirl Production", so anything you'd want to see in a travel guide, let's try to do it.

You can reach me via the forum by email, and sometimes the best way is directly at lilyj7303@yahoo.com. Please let me know when you do send an email so that I can also check my "junk" filter. Don't want to miss ANYTHING!!!

You can't pay for one--I won't let you (or any of you)...Yes, let's make a hard copy. I'd be glad to put it in folder form--that working for an attorney thing and all that office paper sure does come in handy
