I just rec'd a phone call that my 18 yr old had hit a deer while driving home on I-24 in KY from college. Apparently the car is totaled, but she and her friend are okay.
Fortunately my daddy lives about 10 miles away from where the accident occurred and the tow truck is taking the car and kids there now. Hubby has already headed out (it's 100 miles away) to pick up the kids.
As a parent I continuously worry about my daughter when she is driving back and forth from school, but I am very thankful that she is not injured. Like my daddy always told me..."cars can be replaced, but you can't". |

Donna- I am so glad your Daddy is so close! How scary- be sure those girls get looked at and have some good calming tea and rescue remedy if they are shaky. I hope your hubby makes it there soon;) Rebekka

Thanks for the well wishes. I kept asking my daughter today if she was sore or hurt anywhere, but she said no. She was driving a 20 yr old Volvo (those things were built like tanks). She is really bummed out about the car - typical teenage reaction.
Hubby on the other hand is fit to be tied because she had someone in the car with her and how would he explain to this kids' parents if something bad had happened. I can't seem to get through to him that it's a good thing she had a friend with her, she's 18, in college (4.0 gpa) and it's normal to have friends riding together. All he can think about is the money and insurance! Sometimes I'm so ready to use my iron skillet for something other than frying bacon and eggs for him!
Well this should pass and I am just thankful that the kids are safe.

I am always worried about deer on the highways here...it is common in late winter to see 10 or 12 dead ones between here and the next town 7 miles away! Husband hit one a couple years ago driving his pickup..just messed up one headlight and fender..and he wasn't hurt. I hear of too many people being hurt badly...I am so thankful that your daughter and friend were okay!!!

So glad to hear she's alright, and her friend, too. Men are weird, right? He's probably VERY relieved that she's alright and her friend as well, and the realization of what could have happened is dawning on him--they're usually pretty reactionary :)
My boss's daughter goes to U of L (Louisville) and was in a terrible accident coming home just before Christmas...A tractor trailer crushed her in between another truck pulling heavy machinery. Car was totalled, she was totally fine. The tractor trailer left the scene of the accident, only to be caught by police a few miles away because everyone had cell phones!!! She was bummed about her car, too, but got over it when she finally realized the gravity of the situation. My boss did the "my daughter totalled the car" blah blah thing until he saw the car for himself and then he was VERY grateful she wasn't killed.
