Hey guys - some of ya'll from KY mentioned about maybe getting together over in Earthmama's Welcome thread. I thought I would post it up here in case anyone missed that thread.
Here is what I put: "I looks like we got more folks here in the central part of the state than far west and far east of the state. I would highly recommend Berea with their Artisan Center if everyone would like to meet up. It's right off the interstate and would be a 'midpoint' for our folks and right in the middle of the craft capital of the world! :)"
What are ya'll's thoughts on a good month, town, etc? Right now the gals with the Nicholasville chapter are trying to get together with a meeting, but maybe we can also add an "all KY gal" gathering too from the interest everyone has given. What are your thoughts?

Hey Jessica, You know I'm game! Berea is great, Lexington, too. We could eat brunch at the Flagg Fork Herb Farm to start off!!!! It's VERY near the expressway. There's also adorable Winchester, and lord--it's too difficult--I love our state!
I'm thinking Springtime is a great time to get together--maybe last of March or April. Seems like February is a busy month for some folks, and the weather is sketchy often, but I can do that, even. The only thing for me is that I work Monday thru Friday and would like to save my vacation time--it sure does go by quickly!!! If we could make weekend destinations, I would sure appreciate it.

Hi Jessica,
I would love to meet up with all of the KY Farmgirl gals (that is if you all will have a transplanted Kentuckian);-). Like Jonni, springtime would work best for me with work, school and kid schedules going on right now, plus everything should be green and beautiful in the bluegrass state by then.

Donna - you are more than welcome to join us!! :) Once a KY girl, always a KY girl. I'm thinking something of a Saturday. I don't think anyone would want to try to get off work during the week and Saturdays usually work best for everyone. Lets see what the others think too.

Absolutely, Donna! And you can tell me all about Evansville and what's going on there!
Yep, Jessica, I think I might have mentioned Saturdays...works perfect for me. Can't wait to see what the others think...
Then it's on to narrowing a time and place. I'm all excited about it right now--wish it was this weekend!

Saturdays work well for me too, and Berea sounds awesome. I'm about a 20 minute drive from there. I'm really looking forward to this!

Sounds like Saturdays and Berea works out for folks. For those that have never been to the Artisan Center, it has wonderful crafts made by Kentucky artists who are juried and picked by a set of judges to be consider for sale. There are some unique items. Also, they have a very nice dining room and the food is delicious! Also, sometimes they will have demonstrations on different crafts. What month would you gals like to shoot for? I can see about being able to reserve a little bit of space for us to meet up. Maybe we could do a "show and tell" or something with one item that represents us.

Jessica, sounds like a fun outing. I hope it is when I can come. I will be in NY the first weekend of June and at Frannies the 16th of Feb. but maybe I could work with about any other weekend...just throw out some dates and I will see. I am excited! I wont have tons to spend but it will be fun to enjoy a nice meal and meet everyone.

I think from what I remember, their lunches are maybe $10 each and that includes the drink? They have a wide variety of food, from hamburgers to pasta to salad to deli to just about anything. Nothing like Boone Tavern, but still really good based on my experiences.
Oh here is a website for the Artisan Center: http://www.kentuckyartisancenter.ky.gov/
June will be a busy month for me with weddings and our county fair. What does the first of May or even April look like for everyone?

April looks good for me--thus far, May and June are wide open, too. March is going to be busy, what with the MIL trip to the Biltmore and my potato and pea planting!!!
I was just in the new artisan center--it really is nice. Great place to meet up, have lunch and connect. We can scour town, too.
Man, I'm SO looking forward to this!!!!

Oh poo, My husband has a couple of job offers - one in Louisville, KY and the other in Dallas, TX. We are in the midst of praying, wrestling, etc., over the decicion. He has a great job already in MI...anyhow, long story short....everytime I look anywhere, Kentucky and Dallas are popping up! It is crazy! (Especially when it is time to plan/buy plants and seeds for this coming flower farm/market season for Forrester Farm!) At least if we head to KY, I know that there are some great farmgirls to connect with! Ann http://annforrester.tohe.com |

I'm with Jonni! Come to Louisville! It's not a bad town at all...and Kentucky itself is just GORGEOUS! I'm a transplant to Louisville from across the Ohio River but I sure do call it home now.

We did take a 2 day jaunt over Christmas vacation. It was nice to check things out a bit. I was reminded a bit of PA where my husband is from, and a bit of Tulsa, OK, where I went to college. I've always been one for adventure, and have lived in OK and CA in the past. Moving our kids when they are so established...I'm not excited about that adventure! And...would we really take our half pint horses to the land of thoroughbreds? I really appreciate all of the encouragement though - I feel that I'd get a downright proper farmgirl welcome if we choose to venture that way! Can't you hear us chanting "Ken-tuck-y" really loud? haha. You know - you mentioned horses, there are so many horse associations and horse shows in the area. Also - Eastern Kentucky is very much different than Central Kentucky and those two are different than Western Kentucky. Come on down - would love to have ya!

Hi Ladies
I'm another Kentucky Transplant (from NJ ) and am enjoying finding you all (y'all ?) through this site. KY is beautiful in my opinion as well and is just about the friendliest place I've ever been. Cost of living can't be beat (esp compared to NJ).

Jessica, my calendar is open for May or June other than the first Saturday in May, it's derby weekend and Maryland Sheep & Wool fest. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get to attend MS&W this year.
Ann if you need help moving to Kentucky (I'm already thinking that you will move to Kentucky) just give a shout and I'll pitch and help you move. ;-) I bet some of the girls would help too.

OOOOOO I just found you all here. Count me in for a get-together. Shall we knit together? Gab? I moved here from Ohio, grew up in Virginia, always had a proper winter. Why, after years of living here in Louisville, do I still HOPE for snow? Why do I own a sled my 4-year-old will probably only use once in the next 3 years? *groan* Move to Kentucky anyway. I LOVE Louisville...great arts and music scene. |

Earthmama - I was just up in Louisville for a couple of days for a convention this past weekend. you are right - great arts and music scene up there.
I've got to call a couple of places tomorrow and I'll be sure to call and see about the Artisan Center if there are special things going on, etc. Maybe we can narrow down a date. So excited to hear about how many would like to join in!

Hi again ladies
I was wondering if the Louisville Ladies could tell more about places to see and do there. Even though its only 45 minutes away, I haven't explored it much yet. Earthmamma, I would especially love to know more about the Waldorf School there. I did a little Waldorf Teacher Training in NY years ago and homeschooled my kids using the curriculum. Waldorf handwork is my love.

What does May 10th or 17th look like for everyone? It is right after the Derby and right around when we have beautiful springtime Kentucky weather. May 25th is when Berea College's graduation is and so that weekend will be packed with families and traffic in town. I'm getting more details about if there are any artist demonstrations at the Artisan Center that day, etc. The only cost would be for eating and it depends on what you eat. I think the most I paid, with a pop, was $10. They have everything from salads to hamburgers to meat with southern sides (taters, corn, etc). You would pay them directly when you get there and eat whatever you want to eat. We can all meet there and perhaps venture down to Old Town Berea. I can also provide some little input about the town and college from my personal experiences too. :)

Looks good for me, Jessica...I'll mark a "tentative" on those dates until I hear otherwise. I'm REALLY looking forward to meeting up with the Bluegrass's Finest!!!

Sounds great! :) I think once it gets closer to May, we can set a date in stone. Looks like June will be busy with our county fair stuff and attending horse shows.

Donna - you mentioned the Sheep and Wool Festival. Have you been to the Stock Dog Trials where they have dogs that chase and pen the sheep? They have them at Shakertown down near Harrodsburg and over in Lexington. It is a joy to see them compete.
