PHEW! That's a mouthful. This doll has its origins deep in the recesses of my 70's childhood. I KNOW I had a doll/played with a doll something like this. I can't shake the cobwebs loose enough to get a clear picture of it in my mind........but here's my version. She (they??) are made of wool jersey, stuffed with wool. Little Red Riding Hood is on one end.....Grandma is on the other; their arms are jointed and they share a pair of legs!. The wolf is needle-felted onto the back of Grandma's head, hidden by her nightcap. Both Grandma and LLRH have needle-felted in curly locks of wool. LLRH wears a red wool jersey cape over her sweet little romantic dress; Grandma is wearing a green flannel wolf print nightie (ha!) and a matching nightcap trimmed in vintage ric rac.

So so so beautiful Lisa- I love her!Er...them. You are a very crafty mama. How long have you been making Waldorf style dolls? I have made several and find it to be such a rewarding process. Warmly, Rebekka

Aww, thank you Rebekka :) I've been making them for about 5 years now. I love making toys/dolls.....so fun seeing a little person/creature emerge!! Then the joy when you place it in the hands of a child............hard to beat!

you guys are so kind :) Tasha and Pauline.....I charge 110.00 for a 16 inch Waldorf doll and 85.00 for a 12 inch doll. The topsy-turvy I sold for 110 also. She's over 16" tall. I do a couple custom dolls a month.....I try not to overload myself as I have three little ones that are most important in my life. The dolls are a great creative outlet :) Would you guys like to see some more?

I love them! So detailed & pretty little faces!!
I remember having one when I was younger too.. but no where near as beautiful as yours.. Mine was definatly a kids lug around type doll! I love the idea of a nice pretty one to keep though.. I think i have a fat little one here at the house somewhere that came with a story book.. Again..She/they are just not sweet & pretty though..more for really young ones to play with i think.. Oh..... Isn't there a similar doll that has a black & white girl.. you know.. that flips.. Like Aunt Jemina on one side..& then something else on the other? I seem to remember these two! I think the wool on yours too are what makes them so unique.. I really love them..!

I know I'm a bit behind, but what defines a "Waldorf Style Doll"? Thanks! Sherri

I had a Pitiful Pearl and a Wheeler the Dealer doll when I was little. Oh, how I wish I still had them!

Just lovely Lisa! My boys (yes, boys) had waldorf style dolls from the Hearthsong catalog when they were small. They were very special little dolls, and are put away for the next generation of little ones.
Your version is so so wonderful! LOVE Red's rosey lips and WILD hair!

Sherri- Waldorf is a European model of education that places a high emphasis on using only natural fibers and materials, imaginative play, practical skill building, handcrafts, regular routines and celebrations, GOOD food, etc to educate the whole child. There is much more to it than that but if you are to buy a Waldorf style doll it will be one made with natural wool and cotton (there are MANY Waldorf websites out there that explain it well- one that I love is the Shining Star School site).
Hope that helps- Rebekka

Thank you so much Rebekka. I have heard of the Waldorf model of education, butI didn't relate it to the doll. Now I get it!

Wow, beautifully made. My daughter went to a waldorf preschool and the teacher made a lot of little dolls but not quite that nice. My 3 yr old was little red riding fro Halloween this year. DH made the costume! |
