I was wondering do you have a pattern for them? I'm about to be a grandma again (my 2 grandsons are now 4) and I'd like to make some for the new grandchild. I don't know if my son and dl will use them but I'd like them to have them in an emergency (like no money for diapers).

Also, if you or anybody else has a pattern for diaper covers, you know to wear over the store-bought diapers to make it prettier, I would sure appreciate it.

Due date is in June. It'll be here before I know it. I have to get busy!

Hi Lisa!

For the flat folds, it is just a square- 22 inches for a newborn to about 4-6 months (depending on baby size) and a 30 inch square for bigger babbies. You can even go all the way up to a 44 inch square for big babies/toddlers.

Or you can do a contoured diaper that looks and acts just like a disposable diaper except that you wash and dry them instead of tossing them. Here are some links. I used the MammaBird pattern. You can make these either all with cloth which you will need a wrap for or you can get PUL fabric (Plastic on one side) and make it an "All In One" so you don't need a wrap as well. Here are some links to contoured and AIO patterns:

And a link on how to fold flat fold diapers:

Thanks, Alee. I'll let you know if I have a problem. Rose is a great seamstress and lives next door (practically) and I'm sure she could help me if I need hands-on assistance. This is so cool.

Lisa, I'm knitting "soakers" for #12 grandchild due in May for my son and D-n-L. Just type in "soakers" on the internet and you'll come up with a bunch of different styles and patterns. You make them out of handwashable yarn and then felt them. You can even make them for toddlers as well. Some even are made with long legs for when it's colder. Good luck.

Lisa, guess I should have said that "soakers" go over the cloth diapers instead of plastic pants.

Thanks, Maryjane. After I gave these for gifts, all of a sudden everyone wants one! So, I just finished 2 more. I'm all out of lace now. Will have to make a trip to town and stop in at Joann's!

Annie, I don't know how to knit. Grandma tried to teach me when I was a kid but I found crocheting much faster and gave up the knitting.

Hi Lisa!
I also have been a busy bee sewing diapers lately. I found Sew Diapers to be a very helpful forum for diaper sewing questions. They also have links to tutorials about diaper sewing which can be very helpful. Here is the link: http://sewdiapers.com/
Hope this helps!

I don't use PUL. I use diaper wraps that I buy at our local natural living store "The Natural Abode" You can order PUL for decent prices online, just google "PUL fabric". I personally was a little intimidated by the thought of messing up using it (I am a novice sewer) as it can be quite pricey. I think it is close to $8 a yard.

I buy my PUL from sewdiapers. They have great quality and it was not that hard to sew if you use tissue paper with it. Some people who have ordered PUL through Wazoodle lately had complained about them having a bad batch and their customer service did not sound to helpful at that point. So you might want to steer clear of their PUL.

I'm a cloth diaper maker too and I personally dont like PUL. mostly because it's plastic and I have found it isn't as airflow as it is touted to be.

I make wool soakers from thrifted sweaters. the sleeves make great legs for making longies too!
