Somebody has probably already suggested this but I didn't see it...My book suggestion for MaryJane and the farmerettes is to have a Farmgirl Christmas Book. It is christmas day as I write this and boy wouldn't i be reading the book now if only it were written and under my tree.
The book could be all about farmgirl gifts to make, green (as in ecological) gift wrap ideas, house and tree decorating and, of course, food. Lots of ways to charity and lots & lots of recycle, reuse & repurposing for what has become a very consumptive time.
In my mind's eye as i look through the book...
I see a christmas apron pattern...
i see a christmas bakeover...
i see a christmas chill-o...
and on and on...
wish you could see what i see, it is lovely, useful and sweet.
much love, karen

Oh, Yeah! That would one be out for me to read year-round!

What if farmgirls submitted crafts, ideas, recipes, patterns, etc. to MJ to look over and possibly include? That would free her up from writing the entire book and it would gather from a wealth of information that is out there with all of us. Just a thought...

Oh, I just LOVE this idea -- I can just see it, too -- Farmgirl Holidays!!! 'Cause you KNOW that farmgirls just add that extra "something" to the holiday season! That would be out year 'round for me too!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Are you all familiar with "Mrs. Sharp's Traditions" by Sarah Van Breathnach? The front of the book says: "Reviving Victorian Family Celebrations of Comfort and Joy." Each chapter (month) has celebrations/holidays and other seasonal activities in it. For example, in March it's maple sugaring, gardening, Spring and St. Patrick's Day. In April we get Rainy Day Occupations (projects for children), Scrap Projects, Easter, Arbor Day, Passover, including activities, crafts, decorations, and recipes.

A Farmgirl Christmas book would be absolutely wonderful and would stand by itself, no question. However, a year of Farmgirl ideas, by the month or even by season would be really cool too!

Hmm..... "Farmgirl Seasons" by MJ Butters and Friends has a nice ring to it!

Thanks Libbie for the nudge to look at this thread and thank you!!! farmgals for your endless enthusiasm and bountiful ideas.

My Christmas gift this year was finding out a few days ago that our magazine re-launch is a go--their offices in CT were inundated with postcards from subscribers. Our re-launch issue will hit newsstands the end of April. Then we’ll turn right around for a summer issue, then two more in the fall and winter and then six issues in 2009.

Just yesterday, Carol and I mapped out the next four themes. Of course the winter issue is “Handmade Holidays/Farmgirl Style.”

When Gabe gets back next Wed., I’ll have him set up a new e-mail address for you to use to send us ideas. It’ll be handmadeholidays@maryjanesfarm.org and
farmgirlseasonsbook@maryjanesfarm.org

You can send your ideas in the mail too. Include your name and contact info. Address it to: Handmade Holidays or Farmgirl Seasons Book, PO Box 8691, Moscow, ID 83843.

If you have ideas for Valentines Day or Easter or Thanksgiving, etc. don’t hesitate to send ‘em along in one of the categories above. If we use your idea, we’ll let you know ahead of time and then we’ll round up a short BIO about you to put with it. Because we're on such a tight budget and with limited staff, your ideas will be much appreciated!

We’ll need to have you sign a release and originality form but we can worry about that later. Katy and crew will then turn your ideas into bonafide objects/projects in hand that we can take a photo of and also test and retest the instructions for so that other farmgirls can create them as well.

Plant it forward! Another great farmgirl seed has a baby sprout growing. Think crafting, sewing, stitching, food, games, gathering ideas, etc.

Look for my new book, "MaryJane's Stitching Room," in bookstores now. Coming next in 2008: "MaryJane's Outpost Guidebook - for Cultivating Your Inner Wild."

Hello, and welcome to the new year!

Now that I'm returned, I've setup the email addresses MaryJane mentioned — handmadeholidays@maryjanesfarm.org and farmgirlseasonsbook@maryjanesfarm.org . So, commence sending in all the recipe, pattern, craft and decorating ideas you've been stewing and stitching and stringing up.

Howdy, Gabe! Happy New Year and thanks for getting these links up and running so quickly! I'm already jotting down my notes for the holiday season's decorations and food! Christmas is just the tip of the iceberg! Yay!
