Hi! I am fairly new to the site, so I do not know if there has already been a thread discussing this, but I was curious what everyone's favorite remedy is for the children. It is that time of year when the kiddos seem to get everything, and I just don't want to give them OTC Tylenol and cold medicine.

I have tried elderberry syrup for congestion and love it. I would love to get everyone else's tried and true remedies for the common winter cold/flu! Thanks!!

Honey and lemon for a cough. Honey for coughs has actually been in the news lately.

ScienceDaily (Dec. 4, 2007) — A new study by a Penn State College of Medicine research team found that honey may offer parents an effective and safe alternative than over the counter children's cough medicines.

I don't have kiddos, but my sister ran an in-home daycare center for years and always begged me to make tummy tea for the kiddos. I mixed mint, fennel seeds and chamomile...worked sooo well the parents always took some home to use too!

For kids all sizes, I have found elderberry juice to be just wonderful. I canned up my own a year ago, and since reading a post, have found it to be just the best cold remedy. 3 times now someone has started with a sore throat. I got out a jar of juice, and mixed it up with kool aid, and had everyone drink a few glasses of it. The sore throats went away. I can't say enough about it.

we use elderberry and sickie tea as my kids like to call it. It's the Just For Kids line from Traditional Medicinals. We also use echinacea in their OJ in the morning, two weeks on, one week off.

One other thing our whole family uses is aloe vera juice. It's Wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone any time of year.

I love elderberry juice too, and papaya juice is great for tummy aches. -We do hot water with lemon and honey for sore throats too.

I love the tummy ache remedies! My daughter (almost 5) is always having trouble with her tummy. I want to try all these now! Has anyone ever used any medicinal grade essential oils? I am getting a desk reference on them and would love to hear what you all have found to be tried and true.

We also have an almost 2 year old, and she seems to be catching everything this year. She'll get over a fever/cold just in time to get another one a week later. I feel like I need to help build up her immune system!

Thanks for all your help, fabulous farmgirls!
