What is ETSY and how do you start. Have any of you had good luck with it? I need to find a place to maybe sell some of my crafts other then fairs and shows. Any other ideas on how to sell homemade items. I know I won't get rich but at least I would like to fund my habits.

Hi bboopster...yes, funding habits can be good 
Basically, etsy is an large community of online stores that feature only homemade/crafted products. You'd go to www.etsy.com, and if you want to sell, click on the tab that says "Sell" (or maybe it's "sellers") and they guide you through the process of what you will need to start on online store.
Be warned that there is a cost: about 20 cents per each item you list, and then I think they take a small percentage of whatever you're items' price, once it sells...though I don't think it comes to a horribly expensive price.
You will also need a store "banner," which is displayed at the top of your virtual tour (well, you don't NEED one, but it definitely sets each star apart).
Hmm...my advice on other places to show handiwork is to try to check out your towns local events...some small towns encourage craft fairs, etc, so if you can see about the events going on in your town, you can contact them. You can also try to sell at local flea or farmers markets, but you'd have to see if its worth it for you, as some of the folks who go to these aren't up to paying "full price" but are actually looking for bargains!

Betty Jo - I love etsy but I use it more for shopping than I do selling. I have a site but havn't had too much luck. Etsy has over 100,000 sellers so there is a lot of "competition". Some people do really wellat it but you have to work at it and really promote yourself. I've only sold about 30 things in the last year. But I have only recently become "active" at it. Etsy is a website which focuses primarily on providing the general public with a way to buy and sell handmade items. Many have compared the site to a wide open craft fair, because it grants sellers their own personal storefronts where they may list items for a small fee and showcase their handcrafted goods.
