Well, not quite THAT new...I've been hiding out for a little while, watching everyone else online. You see, I'm not quite a farmgirl, not yet, but I've known about Mary Jane for awhile.
I live about as far away from a farm as you can get..New York City. But I have farming roots...my mother was a farm girl in Europe (Hungary) so my entire childhood was spent embroidering, sewing, canning jam...you know, the good stuff
In the meantime, however, I also pursued arts. By day, I am an arts manager, and artistic director of a theater and dance troupe. I choreograph, I events manage, I sew costumes, I overschedule....I design a few websites.
I also split time being a vet tech...I've always happened to like animals. I spent 7 years as a vet tech seeing everything from dogs to ferrets to goldfish. I finally left THAT to pursue a more flexible way of animal care --pet-sitting (www.my-best-buddy.com) I think it's VERY difficult to have animals in the city...so, being obnoxiously progressive (you know us city slickers are!) I eventually wanted to get a farm and use part of it for animal rescue.
Finally, having spent waaaaay too much time in city farmers markets, knitting and crafting stores, and all the crazy things us urbanites do when we WANT to get the heck out of dodge and move to a farm--I decided to create an online magazine...which melds farm crafts cooking, and life to the city culture. I also embroider, knit and make crafts for occasional sale. This route eventually led someone to mention Mary Jane...though farming, obviously, isn't huge in the city, there are MANY people who are looking for a simple way of life, so count me in!
In between this, of course, I SOMETIMES sleep. Can't say for sure how much I will post, but I look forward to sharing ideas, etc, on this site :)

Hi Corinne! Wow, thank you very much. Well, it seemed a little strange to post a mag about farms on a site hosted by THE country magazine/books about farm life, but it's sooo supportive here. Hmm, I've been in New York City for too long! Too much competition!
Anyhow, here is the mag: www.bigtownfarmer.com
We are always looking for writers and next month I'm profiling crafts people...so, maybe this would be a good time to let me know if you have a farm business?

Hi Zen, Welcome and I checked out your magazine, looks like a winner to me. I will be watching for the next issue, looks like I could get some new ideas from you. Not that I need more things to do, its just an obsession of sorts, which I don't plan on getting help to get over. Nancy Jo

Welcome Zan. I grew up in NY- but a bit upstate from you in Ithaca before moving West. I love the City, especially at Christmas time. I have friends in the theater there still, though they are mostly retired (NYC Opera).
Glad to have you here!

Thank you again! Yes, it's wonderful to rediscover some of those farmgirl talents though I have to tell you, nothing will wierd a person out on a subway train faster than someone breaking out with their embroidery! Yes, it has happened!
