Well..... my oil has not cleared, so I started doing more research to find out what to do/not to do, etc. In doing so, I found this on a web site and it is enough for me to not give away this particular batch. There are many sites out there that tell you how to do them, so I will keep researching, experimenting, etc. The last thing I want is to make someone sick!

"A food safety note: do not make flavored oils. The oxygen-free environment that exists around herbs, spices, and other ingredients placed into oils is the ideal place for botulism to grow. If you want to include a flavored oil in a gift basket, purchase commercially made flavored oils and do not transfer them to another bottle."

Carmel Corn

Pop popcorn

In sauce pan over low heat, combine 1/2 stick butter, 1/4 to 1/2 cup brown sugar and 2-4 large marshmallows. Drizzle warm caramel over popcorn. More butter makes it thinner and more brown sugar makes it grainier and thicker. More marshmallows makes it more sticky and thicker as well.

Anyway you make it- it's yummy!

Since I failed to include what to do with it, here you go. Sorry about that!

In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Stir in rice. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes or until water is absorbed.

For 4 (8) servings:
1 (2) cups rice
2 1/2 (5) cups water

SEASONED RICE MIX
3 cups uncooked regular brown rice
1/4 cup dried parsley flakes
6 teaspoons instant chicken or beef flavored bouillon
2 teaspoons onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves

In a container with a tight fitting lid, combine all ingredients and mix well. Seal tightly and store in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months. Stir well before each use.

We are having elk steaks and homemade pasta with roasted garlic and a nice green salad tonight. The rich food has really done me in, so it's leaner stuff for me
I love to do the baking, but am glad that I have friends to give the goodies too. I actually love bringing plates of cookies to neighbors and wishing them happy holidays, it's fun.

Everyone have a safe warm and joyful Christmas

Hope everybody had a peacefull Christmas.
I was haunted by the thoughts of the farmers and grangers in Washinton who got flooded and lost everything...
Lizzie posted on the forum through Jen the following info:

""About seeds-- many of you had asked if you could send
seeds and the farmers are finally ready to address
this. The best way to do this is to arrange for a
credit or gift certificate from one of the seed
companies listed below. Just specify which farm you
want that credit to go to. The farms are listed below.
After polling the veggie farmers I realized that they
all buy from the same three seed companies. They are:
Osborne Seed Co. in Mt. Vernon WA www.osborneseed.com
360-424-7333 or 800-845-9113 for wa, or, id
Johnny's Seeds in Maine www.johnnyseeds.com
877-564-6697
Fedco Seeds in Maine www.fedcoseeds.com 207-873-7333
Boistfort Valley Farm (see
www.boistfortvalleyfarm.com) SEE THEIR WEBSITE FOR
FLOOD AND CLEANUP PHOTOS!!!
I talked to Heidi today and she said that they lost
all their backstock, so they will be ordering more
seeds than ever, this year. She said that they spend
close to $3,000 on seeds each spring, not to mention
the stuff like row cover and all the other incidentals
that were lost.

Rising River Farm www.risingriverfarm.com SEE THEIR
WEBSITE FOR AWESOME SCARY FLOOD PHOTOS!!! Wobbly Cart
is part of the collective, so these photos reflect
their impact too.

Since our chapter is about growing plants and seeds and herbs, we could team together and send a collective gift certificate to one of these farms ? Would you all be willing to buy a little bit of the money you would spend on seedsfor yourself and and have something to give to the ones in needs ? Annika, if we send money individually to you, would you accept to organise it? I would love to do it and I have a Paypal account, but being in Kuwait, I cannot receive checks or others means of payments.

Corinne, first come and look in on the new HenHouse blog =)

I, too, have been thinking of the people and their terrible losses. They both suffered so much as well as did many others. Let me see if we can get some other sisters to aid us in this. I think that we could all just buy Gift Certificates and have them sent to the various farms. I will do all that I can. Thank you for being such a help Corinne. Lets see what we can get in the way of help for this.

Since we all seem to be fans of Christmas, we could start a Christmas 2008 club and spend part of every month making things for next Christmas and sharing our projects with each other. We can post pics over in the henhouse and talk about Christmas crafts/recipes in general. I think it would be fun and a good way to share and get to know each other better.
