I made these "curtains" for my kitchen from aluminum flashing. I love how the light streams through them in the morning - unfortunately it was rainy this morning when I took the picture!
I printed a pattern from the internet and enlarged it to fit the metal. Then I punched out the pattern with a nail and hammer.
I get comliments on them all the time and the best part is that they were FREE - we already had the metal in the barn.

Methinks our Queen Bee needs to buzz on over to your house and check these out...most definitely an idea for her next book!

They are beautiful, Jennifer!! They remind me of the punched tin lanterns that we had hanging in our family room back in Mass. when I was young. Such a clever idea.

Thanks for all the kind words!
Abbasgurl, the metal is bent at the ends and nailed to the window. If you didn't want to do anything that permanent, perhaps you could use magnets with a sticky side? The aluminum is of course very light, so those might work just as well.

Thanks, Alee! I did it on all three kitchen windows.
For two of my windows in my living room, I hung singletrees that I found in our barn. The middle ring is perfect for hanging a tiny wreath at Christmas!

Jennifer, I love your curtains, and really like your idea with the singletrees. Humm, what else have you done. You might like this idea that I did : I am using an old metal grain scoop for a utensil holder on my counter. I cleaned it up and sprayed it with sealer, and it looks really neat. Michele |

I LOVE that idea, Michelle. One of my favorite things to do is go "scalveging" (salvage and scavenge, geddit?) in order to repurpose things around the farm.

Oh, Jennifer - they are just darling. I can see why you get compliments on them all the time! And the pattern you picked for them is just perfect. It's true - what a wonderful way to "farmgirl up" your kitchen!
XOXO, Libbie

I have two tall skinny windows in my living room that I would love that look on!! Gosh you have great ideas!!! Love the utensil holder one too!! I can tell you are going to be inspiration for alot of us!! Keep coming with the ideas..we love them!!

I just googled "punched tin patterns". I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the pattern!
