Anyone mountain bike? I am starting and would love input on your bike and things that you like or don't like about it.

My husband bikes. He was on the VA Tech cycling team, and wants to start up racing again. He's in MBA school right now but tries to ride whenever he gets a chance. I have a bike but have never gone mountain biking. He is a lot faster than I am and right now when he gets a chance to ride he wants a work out and he can't get that with me along. Although he would still go with me and enjoy it. I can ask him a some questions if you would like.

I would love to know his suggestion for a decent, not too expensive, bike. I can't do one of the $1200-$2000 bikes because our income just can't afford something that expensive. I am hoping to get one second hand. But I don't even know what to start looking at. Just his insight would be great!

Eric said that you may want to try a bike shop, he would stay away from Wal Mart, etc. Tell them that you want an entry level bike, not all the bells and whistles of racing bikes. Ask if they have second hand or trade ins or if they know of someone who would want to sell one. Tell them your budget, he said that most places are easy to work with. He said that you live in a huge biking community, so there should not be a problem to find a really good one for a good price. You may even be able to get in contact with a cycling team and find out if they have any suggestions for around that area. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

I second the "secondhand" suggestion! I got a "gently used" red Specialized bicycle a couple of years ago and I LOVE it. Oh, Angie - you'll have so much fun. It's great exercise and a wonderful way to see some beautiful terrain.

Oh, and Robin - I want a pink John Deere Tractor, too - only I'll call it a "Jane Deere!"

XOXO, Libbie
