This year with the freeze in the spring and drought in the summer in Kentucky, it has been hard on the leaves changing colors. The tourism folks and forestry folks are saying that when the big burst of colors come, it will be short and sweet. Usually this time of year I'm out in full force taking fall photos, but with the lack of color, it has been slow.

Are other parts of the country going through this? One of the "hot spots" in Kentucky to see colors is Red River Gorge. It is just one of the most breath taking displays you will see and well worth driving to and camping. I think this weekend there was a big rock climbing event there.

If you are coming to Kentucky or in Kentucky, a good website to see and read about the changes is:

We don't get the many colors that one might see in New England but we do have color here and it is here now. A lot of yellow up in the mountains from the Larches and sycamores but we have so many conifers that there is a lot of green. In August the Vine Maples start turning red and then the other maples and Ashes turn their spectacular oranges and red. Here are a couple of pics in my area. MB

WOW - I LOVE the colors in those trees. That red just pops right out. Fall is my favorite time of year. I mentioned the Gorge and I forgot to mention Bernheim Forest in Bardstown. It has some beautiful leaves and scenery to see.

When I get the chance and when the leaves change a little more, I'll post up some photos. :)

The leaves are changing here already and some are dropping. I noticed one yard in town was completely carpeted in leaves! Wow! Fall rushed up on me faster that I expected!

Leaves here in MD aren't changing much either. They are just brown :( They are falling faster than they are changing.

Great news....we just got a bunch of rain (over 5 inches here) and the colors are just popping out. It actually feels like fall time here in KY. Whenever the sun gets back to shining, I will try to get some photos posted for ya'll.

it's changing here in England now. i don't think our colours are as bright as what you find in the US, but to me they're still beautiful. They've really changed over the past couple of weeks, the trees have gone from being more green overall to more brown overall
