Garden Gate:  How has global warming affected your garden?  |

As I walked around my yard today and recorded my hits and misses in my gardening journal, I caught myself writing down what still looks good after over 5 months growing season. I realized I have to plan for long term annuals in my containers and yard. Something I didn't have to worry about 10 years ago. Normally here in Zone 5 we would get at least 1, possibly 2 killing frosts in September. We haven't even come close to that. They are calling for temperatures to be 23 degrees higher here then normal for this time of year for the next 10 days.
I was able to put all my flowers in by the first of May and it looks like they'll still be with my through October at least. Being from the Midwest, this is still a relatively new experience for me. I'm having to learn what annuals will look pretty still after that long of time. I can't afford to replace flowers as autumn begins. Also, I've had to make sure I put in perennials that can take our roller coaster droughts/monsoons, super hot summer days and freezing cold winters.
I was just wondering if any of you other farmgirls have been experiencing the same thing. How much adjusting have you done to plan your gardens without realizing it?

There was just an article in our electric coop news, about how alot of the recording stations,for temp, and whatever, are located in bad spots. One was next to a burning barrel, and a tennis court. A few where located in water treatment plants. The one that came closest to being the most accurite was 25 feet away from a building. I just kind of scanned though the article, but I thought how accurite can they be.
I say go with the flow, and ride it out, as you can't control the weather. I don't change much, and I always look forward to freezing, and pulling stuff out, and being done for the year.
