Hello!!

I'm excited and lucky to say that my sister Veronica and a good friend, Heather, are both pregnant and due within 3 days of each other!!! YEA!!!

While they are going through mounds of morning sickness, I need some clues as to what can help and where to go to spoil them rotten. New clothes, good morning sickness food, good baby products, babyshower suggestions. Any suggestions? They both are new moms and in their mid 20's.

Thanks for the help!

Much Love,

To-Be-Auntie Tess

Tess-

A wonderful gift you could give both is going over and cleaning their house and bringing pre-cooked food for them during the morning sickness phase. I was so wiped out but the mess in my house drove me crazy. And I know this is probably TMI- but cleaning the toilet for them is a lovely gift! :D

Baby products: The Sleepy time baby bath/baby shampoo, recieving blankets, baby clothes for the season they are born in and bigger sizes, blankets, baby spoons and dishes, floor toys- pretty much anything to do with baby is usually appreciated.

We didn't use our baby bath very much though.

Also food and cleaning for right after the baby is great too. And if you can help them by cleaning while they are in the hospital that would be great too. Cleaning is huge to a new mom!

Some of the most useful presents I have are blankets that are about double the size of a receiving blanket. Blankets are useful summer, fall, winter and spring! :D

Congrats to you and your sister and friend!

I have to say that I second the "stocking the freezer" suggestion! It's so great to have meals those first couple of weeks. And for the expectant mother? What about a gift certificate for a pregnancy massage. I had one, and I wished I could have had about 50!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Some of my favorite things I got for my kids were handmade items. My mother-in-law and her mother made each of my kids a baby quilt. A lady my hubby works with made them both afghans. These are things that will be something special to remember the makers by in the future. Also I received a wreath made out of baby stuff. They used a big metal ring and attached diapers all the way around and hung things like little baby powders, bottles, lotions, toys, toothbrush, etc with ribbon. It was really neat.

I have heard of baby showers where everyone brings a food dish that can be put in the freezer. Then when the new babe arrives the family is set for a good couple of weeks without having to worry about what to fix for dinner.

If they are going to cloth diaper ( a great way to go!!! ) getting them stocked up on diapers, cloths for wipes etc is great.

But with morning sickeness even the smallest little things help out. I only had it bad with my first one, thank goodness. I couldn't even walk across a room without losing my cookies. My best to both momma's to be and Auntie Tess.

Blessings....
Sarah

Oh, thank you so much!!! These hints are very helpful. Both are very sick and overly emotional right now. Poor Heather called me a couple days ago, almost in tears, and said "Don't get pregnant! It sucks! I was so emotional the other day that I cried for an hour over a lost flip-flop! I don't know why and I feel stupid!" It's funny for me, but I still feel bad.

I keep thinking of stuff that I need to start learning: how to quilt, how to knit, how to make pot roast in a crock pot... The essentials! All I can say is THANK GOD for MaryJanesFarm! And of course you lovely, encouraging women! :) Thanks for the blessings and well wishes. I will pass them along.

Also, if any of you know any good websites for organic baby wear, momma's wear, and for homemade baby stuff (those awesome slings!), that would be incredibly handy!

Thanks a million. :)

Much Love,
Tess

There are lots of sites that cater to freezer cooking...
www.30daygourmet.com (same name book)
http://snider.mardox.com/OAMC.htm (lots of recipes)
http://oamc.8m.com/ ("dump" chicken... you put raw chicken in marinade, freeze it that way, and it marinades as it thaws)
http://www.dinnersinthefreezer.com/

There's a sling pattern in the MJ stitching book. I bought a wrap from www.mayawrap.com... You can buy one, or they give directions to make a basic one. If you get one of these wraps, they send a dvd to show you all the ways you can "wear" your baby.

Here's a site with lots of baby thing patterns...
http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/index.html

My all-time favorite baby item was a boppy. I had one with both kids and buy them for baby presents now for friends.

The best maternity clothes I found were at Old Navy, especially online if you don't have a big one nearby that has a lot of maternity clothes. They have some really cute stuff that is more in style than other places, but doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

First- Debra, Number 7! you go girl!

With a first time mom, I would have to suggest the book "What to Expect When You are Expecting" by Heidi Murkoff. It was a Godsend to me with my first one. It breaks down every month and later week of the pregnancy with so much valuable information.
How wonderful and they will have a great Auntie and friend !

Babies - HOW EXCITING. In the last year two of my daugters and my daughter in law gave us new grandchildren. Here are some of the things I did for them.

Peppermint and/or ginger tea are GREAT for upset tummies.

I made a mom to be bag for everyone and put teas, journal, ink pens, relaxation CD, belly lotion, a scented candle and pretty baby night gown. Each gift was wrapped and a special note was attached and then everything was put in the bag. The journal and pens were for them to write down there thoughts ( hopes, wishes, dreams, fears, ects), the candle and cd were for when they were stessed, the teas for the tummy and the baby night gown always melts the heart.

When they were a little further along try taking them out for pedicures.

When we had the baby showers I did a couple of things

1. Covered dish and everyone brought the recipe for the mom to be
2. Book basket - we asked everyone to bring a favorite book to start the baby(s)library
These were all big hits with the moms.

Also try decorating cloth diapers for designer spit rags - embroider, sew, applique....the sky is the limit and they are PRECIOUS. Remember as long as it comes from the heat it will be perfect.

there is a seed to plant in every heart

I threw up for the first 5 months during my first pregnancy. I became quite expert at eating the right textured foods that didn't hurt my throat on their way back up. Toast, crackers, bananas, soft foods like that weren't bad on the exit.

I think helping clean house or doing a few loads of laundry would be a great help to both of them. Once their babies arrive, a few home cooked meals would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure. Not to mention the cleaning & laundry. I would have loved for someone to come over & keep an eye on things while I napped too. I had no help whatsoever after my first two sons. Luckily I married a wonderful man and when I had my third son, he left late for work every day, came home for lunch so I could nap and made an effort to get home quickly to help me out. He also took a two week vacation after our son was born. It was wonderful & I bounced back much quicker to my old self because of all of that help.

They're both lucky to have someone like you wanting to take care of them!

I haven't had to deal with the "morning sickness" too much- mostly just the being tired part. Something you could fix up for the girls that would be thoughtful and helpful--Lavender ess. oil drops on a pretty hankie is great. I say pretty because this is to stick any place that is easy to breath. It only takes one or two drops, she can place it inside her shirt top, by her head as she sleeps or carry it in her purse(keep it in a baggy to hold the smell) and get it out to breath when sickness comes on. Also ginger tea is good for this. When I was feeling tired drinking a glass of water with viniger(some people add honey) was very helpful. I just had my fourth baby 4 wks ago, so all of this info is fresh in my mind! Congrates!
