OMG!!! You'll have to privately email us what you pd Autumn. I've been scouring local Craiglist daily to find a featherweight that ISN'T $300!!!
Good things come to those that wait~it had your name on it!!! YIPPPEEE!!

I've been out digging in the gardens. Getting it ready for a load of horse manure. It's like Louisiana outside!! I think it's a cruel joke and a big storm won't be far behind Maybe not though.....

Autumn, from what I just read..the mint green is an alternate description for the white featherweight made in Britian from 1963-68..they said it has a slight green cast to the color...then I read that there were some mint green ones made in Britian as well.

You have found a treasure!!

This one was made in Britain-has a tag on the back with that info and there's no slight to it- it is GREEN! I guess the flash washed it out a bit- even the case is green.
Is that better???
The lady that sold it to me-(not garage sale price)said it belonged to her mother in law.

Well, she can be happy that it went to a good home. ;)
What a find!! Right place right time.

I got 2 grapes planted today and one garden plot all spaded up. Most of my seeds bought and am on the lookout for seed potatoes so I can plant those in April. I'm so loving March so far!

I have one of those old green Singers made in Britain, Ii believe it is in a box in the barn, of course I don'r know which box...

My snowplow guy came early today and called me up first, told me to get the hell out of my driveway for a while, because he just got a bigger truck and plow. I managed to get dressed and decided this way my moment to hit the post office. Treats were waiting for me there. Bonne sent me some beautiful green soap, eucalyptus mint, it smells divine and some body butter that is wonderful. What a treat! Nancy Jo sent me a wonderful embroidered sachet and some twinkly buttons. I was so dazzled by these unexpected treats.

I've had my pain pills, fell down in the driveway three times when I got home from the post office, not too bad since my yard has mountains of fresh hew snow. My knees are protesting a bit. Could have been so much worse...I'm drinking coffee now, hoping that will spur me into some sort of useful behavior.

I mailed a few packages, one to Bonne, one to Jess, aprons to Kathie, and a book to Ruth. That was nice to FINALLY get them in the mail...

I can't believe you get to plant already, Bonne, that is great. I have been getting a few seeds together, but it will be May before I can wedge anything in the ground here. I love to garden, and I have six big raised gardens, my friend Delia calls them the Viking graves, they are quite tall so I can sit on the edge and plant things. One of the garden thingy has herbs, one strawberries, and then there are three to plant with veggies, and I have a shade garden in one of them. It is tucked in by the edge of my yard, going down to the farmpond. I feel better just thinking about planting!!!

Bonne, thanks again, and thanks to Nancy Jo as well. My e mail is acting a bit wonky, but I did email both of you through the Farmgirl Connection...
That was so lovely to find treats nestled in the pile of a week's worth of mail...

It is hard to believe anything will ever be green here again. I noticed several large limbs down in the middle of the driveway, which is planted with trees from friends' yards. My lilacs were pounded down to the ground, but they look a bit better today. I am grateful for the giant blanket of snow, as it protects the plants, but this year it feels a bit overdone...

Hope everyone is well, and warm.

Karin

I can't do any gardening either. My yard is covered in about a foot of snow.

I just made two more loaves of bread and they were awesome. I gave a loaf to my neighbors. It was so good warm with butter on it. YUM! YUM!

Autumn~no baby news?

We have to get an early jump on the garden because we're converting what is left of our lawn into a horseshoe pit and big garden. 70's this week. Taking advantage of it. I told my neighbors in order to live here you have to produce~my grass wasn't giving me back anything for all the watering I pay for, so to garden it goes. lol

Karin, glad you got out to the Post Office but sorry you bummed your knees repeatedly.

For those that I'm mailing the chicken potholder pattern too.....I've haven't forgot...just like my mini aprons..they are finished and waiting for me to take them to the PO. I've got my polka dot ones all cut out and a few pinned ready to sew the waistband on.

Autumn, I gave $299 for my black featherweight a few years ago. The gold decals 99.5% perfect and after a good oiling and lube she runs like silk. You really did well..you've wanted one for a long time and not only did you get one but you got a *special* one. Some things just don't come cheap and it seems the featherweights never do anymore.

Bonnie, we removed our grass lawn in the front over 20 years ago now, and have a lot of wonderful bushes. My neighbor removed her small grass area behind the house and planted a beautiful garden. If you are going to water something, you may as well get something out of it. My son has a garden in the back of our house.

I want to rip out a bunch of grass in the backyard to make a garden spot. I read that you can just put black plastic over the grass and it will kill it and then put compost on top. This sounds nice and easy, has anyone tried it? I was wondering if it really works.

I don't know, Ruth, but my plan this year is to build some frames, put down black plastic and dump top soil in on top and start planting. Nothing will grow in our soil except weeds...

In the south, we have grass NO MATTER WHAT!!!!
Doesnt seem to be a choice- we just mow and trim and try to keep it from taking us over!!!! I actually love cutting the grass and trimming.

Busy with eye dr and reg dr appts today- refill RX time.

Still waiting on the baby!!!

I don't use plastic, I lay down a thick layer of newspapers then dump a bunch of well aged horse or steer manure with some topsoil. I get newspapers from neighbors that take the paper~have them save them for me.

yes, newspapers are an awesome idea, they just compost into nothing.

I will have to ask my neighbors to save their newspapers for me. We use ours as fire starter so I don't really have any.

could I do it as soon as the ground thaws, or is it too late. I didn't do it in the fall. I have to try something like this because I don't want to have to tear it all up.

I can't wait for some warm weather. I just shoveled the path to the mailbox and my cheeks are frozen. Hubby shoveled it out twice yesterday but the wind blew it all back. Got to keep that mailbox clear~just in case their is farmgirl mail. Don't care about the bills just the farmgirls.

yes, when the ground thaws do it, there may be a fairly thick layer of "sod" you have to dig through though, just depends....as soon as your snow melts would be an opportune time as all will be really wet and squishy..easy to remove grassiness.
