Ronna, It's not the rent that's the problem! The problem is being pressured to buy it! We have done work on the house including the 2 weeks Gary spent re-wiring the house after we had an electrical fire here 2 weeks after we moved in because the former owners had way too high breakers and some wiring shorted out! He has also dug up the plumbing to the septic because it kept backing up because the pipe turned at a sharp angle! We paid twice to have the septic pumped and we paid for a new hot water tank! Gary also was going to fix the roof where the fire was, but John would never give him the okay! We put in new plumbing in the kitchen after I was without plumbing off and on for 3 years! It is putting a dent in our friendship! John has come over 2-3 times a week for dinner since we moved up here and now it's just awkward for me plus the fact that we go to the same church which is where we met him! I am trying to be cordial, but sometimes I just want to yell at both of them!

Monica, my apologies for not knowing "the whole story". You've put a lot of $$ and work into the place. Would it be possible to do a lease option for a year (and hope the other place gets finished) that would not obligate you at the end of the term and yet keep John happier? Of course, being such a small town, he'd probably know if you have plans for the other house in that time...and that would likely not be good. Electrical and plumbing are not easy nor cheap problems. Got word that the leach fields had not been prepped properly in the new house bought in SoCalif desert and the builder was not happy when I called for them to come back and do it right. A backed up septic is not a pleasant surprise. Lots of cut corners that my ex caught soon enough and corrected, but he missed that one. Low cost homes built with less than quality materials and workmanship. The stress on your whole family is not good, especially with John being around often. I do hope you can find a remedy that will make it better for you. Sorry about my misunderstanding. |

I tried links and that didn't work so here are the ones I like: Page 1: 2nd card in the fourth row from the top Page 2: 3rd one in the second row Page 5: 1st one in the second row Page 16: 1st one in the fifth row Page 20: 3rd one in the second row
These are a few of the ones I liked Monica. There are so many to choose from. I was able to get the Apronology magazine for you. I will mail it next week when I get paid. Ruth

Autumn, so glad you liked the English Muffins. Guess I should share the recipe with more than the "selected few". Did you bake them on a griddle or in the oven? |

I'm going to be on a baking tear tomorrow up at my son's. Think I'll start my sponge tonight and bring it with me so it's good and sour by tomorrow. Oh, Ronna, this sourdough baking has just opened up a whole 'nother world for us! lol I put the starter in everything~even in my brownies I made yesterday.

Bonne, so happy to expand your baking horizons..if it expands waistlines, I won't take the blame. I'll have to admit I've never added it to brownies, but will take your word that it's good. In many recipes, it adds a flavor dimension that is hard to pinpoint but really good. Posted that sourdough english muffin recipe on MJ's bread baking thread, first one in the kitchen.

You don't need a lot leftover from baking to start feeding again Ruth. 1/4 cup is plenty, less than what I sent you. just back down the amounts at each feeding until you build up the supply and then increase if you want more. What I've not said on here or MaryJanes thread is the thickness of your starter. It's personal preference. I keep mine like pancake batter, but water and flour ratios can be adjusted to suit yourself. Starter is not rocket science and you'll enjoy it more if you can relax and use it as you wish. The pioneers kept it more as a mother, a chunk of dough left from baking, and stored it in the flour barrel for temp control and safety on the prairies. My MIL said her mother and grandmother kept it on the top of the wood/coal cooking stove in Kansas, closer to the pipe when it was cold. |

Ruth and anyone just beginning with my starter; it's well aged, you only need to increase by feedings to bring it up to the amount you need for your recipe with a bit left over. Even if you should forget and dump it all in, there will be enough on the sides of the container for you to feed and continue on. If you are a slave to it, you'll hate it; if you relax and enjoy using it, you'll love it...unless you just don't like the taste of sourdough and that is a personal problem :) My other half does not like it, so I do understand. He's weird, but then his mother told me she didn't like it either but realized in talking to me that it was what her mother and grandmother baked when she was growing up on the farm in Kansas. She baked all her bread, never bought any until she was well into her 80's. And then bought the cheapest caramel colored so called "wheat" bread at the store. Makes no sense, her bread was always white and it was the best thing she did in the kitchen. |
