Ronna, that doll is so very cute. Definitely a collectible doll for sure. I wish that I had the things from my childhood, but most of them were stolen from our house while we were up in Northern California when I was in the 7th grade.

Hmmmmm first in linesys, now that is a grand thing. I rarely got to be first in line in anything, does this mean I finally made it!!!!!!! Bonne girl you can make a shawl and they are absolutely beautiful. I had one made by my Aunt for my high school graduation, I loved it and I miss it. Somebody that we helped out over the years decided to take my shawl and a few other things. That stinks but sometimes when you help people out they don't respect what they were truly given. Such is the journey of a life.
Girls you should see some of the way cool quilts she has. She sent pictures of some of them a while back. Oh My gosh, ask her to show you her yoyo ones. They are so cool. Since I quilt of coarse I am addicted to them. I look a lot but mostly can't touch. I have rescued one small lap one from a dingy guy who was using his feet, paint feet I might add, to wipe his stupid feet off on. Another one that just has huge patches on it I rescued from out dumspter here. I coulnd't stand letting it be thrown out like that. It took some hard handwashing before I used it. But the fabrics alone are the speciality. Getting to see what was before. I know, I may not be a cancer but there are things I just can't let go by the way side either. They are part of history and I want to know the stories with them.

I had to leave nearly everything when my mother divorced my dad and sucked us back to SoCal when I was 7. I was able to keep my Toni doll (my last doll, since my sister and I were too old for dolls....she was 12, but I was only 7) and this doll. Her name is Jackie and she lived in a big long box for 50 years, until I bought her a same vintage wicker buggy a few years back. One dress was made from this lady's mothers wedding dress. Have woolen soakers, celluloid rattle, original diaper, etc. She's the family heirloom. My sister kept her little red plastic radio and a dictionary. The rest we had to give away...came home from school and were told mother had divorced dad and was marrying someone else the next day. Big shock, to say the least. |

WOW Ronna. My parents divorced when I was 7 years-old. My mom told us that we were only going to be up north for a day or so. She was trying to see if she could see the doctor who did her back surgery. The doctor was imprisoned. Complicated story. We were there for about 3 months or so, until my dad came up north to get us kids. I used to be angry with my mother about that, but not anymore. I honestly believe that our neighbors across the street from us broke in to our house. We had a long feud with them. A kind of off and off feud. I really did not like them at all. One time they were to watch us but I don't know why. It was summer, and we had to stay in their back screened in porch. There were rusty nails, and I remember get more than one in my foot.

Thanks Bonne, now I have a real reason/excuse :) Not that it stopped me, not having an answer for why I do it! Not long ago, my "if you don't need it for 15 minutes, throw it away" husband said I was obsessive compulsive..asked where he got that and he said "Dr.Phil"...which he never watches. Then he said he saw it on Law and Order. I finally figured out he had it mixed up with hoarding. Which I do, if you look in my pantry, fridge or freezer. His fault for that; when we first married I had to get everything I needed for two weeks and if I forgot something, it was just too bad-didn't get back to "town" to shop for another two weeks. At 17, with a 6 mo old baby, I learned fast to make sure I had enough food to last. Mother was a pack rat too, some of the stuff she had stashed away when I packed her up and moved her from Palm Springs are some of the same I do. So, it's hereditary too :) She never had more than one pair of shoes until she was in her 30's, so bought everything she found in her size and died with an Imelda Marcos shoe hoard, many never worn. Too bad 6 1/2 N is such a unusual size. Some may go on eBay yet, unless I find someone who can wear them. Yes, they're still in the storage, waiting for me to deal with them. |

Sharon, I believe that all we are now is a result of where we've been in life. Being a "latch key kid" was not that common when I was growing up. After my life was turned upside down, I would enroll myself in school when we moved...which was often. Went to one elementary school 3 different times and another twice, plus a whole bunch more. I grew up really fast. Was getting dinner started when I was 8, which my sister now takes credit for but it wasn't her. Lots of water under the bridges here. |

'Sailor boy' fabric is going to go live at Carol Sue's house. Yippee, it won't have to go live at the storage to not be seen again for a long time! |

got me beat, only 3 here :) I asked mother why we moved so much, she said she kept trying to find us a better place to live. In those days, no huge deposits and fees and I know she never cheated anyone out of dime on rent or anything. |

Ronna doesn't know how to post to the MJF, so I'll take a photo tomorrow and email to you, Jess. As I told Carol Sue, the end of the cardboard says VIP/Cranston and $4.98 yd., so it's been around awhile and good quality. You can talk her out of some of it :) As with so many things I 'drag home' as Larry says, it was too neat to leave there. The senior thrift shop charges 50 cents a yard for fabric....can't go wrong! |

I just want to see it you know...sounds so cute. I would not have a clue what to do with it and I am sure CS has plans./ Besides, I am desperately trying to work through my more than 3,000 yards of my own. Man, your thrift shops are better than ours.
Well, we have one that is really cool, but they made me mad so I quit going. I went in there once when I had 4 kids and I was pregnant with the twins. All the kids were well dressed, hair fixed, and actually were really well behaved...we were looking for parts and pieces for my oldest daughter's costume for her Kindergarten play...she was a very old lady..so you know an old floral dress, crochetted sweater, 50s glasses, some big gawdy jewelry, etc......well we found it all and of course it was hideous to me, but perfect for her costume. So we got to the front counter and the lady at the check out was so mean to me. As she was ringing things up she kept telling me ..."you know this is 2 dollars, not 20 cents....you know this is 5 dollars, not 50 cents..."...and of course I kept saying "yes, yes, yes I know." See this shop is run by a group of rich old ladies in the poorest section of town. Then she starts asking me if I needed directions to the women and children's shelter and they can help me collect child support and gain the skills I need to get a job. At that point my oldest daughter says.."My mom has a job, she is my mom." And the lady was all like oh your daughter is so sweet...then she went to hand me the bag and my daughter piped up that she was carrying the bag because it was her stuff for a costume for her school play. So the woman then asked her what school she went to ...well of course my daughter told her and the woman felt instantly like an idiot. My kids go to the most expensive private school in this town. So I decided I did not need to ever shop there again no matter how great their stuff is.

Busy Busy Quilt talkin' Girls Today!!
I actualy got ER'd from work.. (For those that aren't familiar with this term at my Job.. It's an early release.. depending on Call volume.. & several of our systems were having 'challenges' as we are forced to call it.. so i signed up for an ER.. we never know whther or not we'll get it.. so when we do.. It's a BINGO for me as far as I'm concerned! Except we don't get paid the hours we leave of course.. which is still fine with me.. Anytime away from the office has to be a good thing!) ANYWAY!! Came home & did a couple loads of laundry.. sewed & finished up a couple Apron's.. & napped on & off all afternoon.. I still feel like death warmed over.. Can't shake this crazy bug or what ever got me right now.. I d gone to the Dr. & have Bronchitis again.. & have finished my antibiotics.. but.. here I am.. sounding Like is have the.. What did they call it.. oh crud.. it was a funny word for TB.. Anyway.. I'm sure my Team Mates at work were probably happy to see me leaving today!

Well. I knew I took my eyes off the computer for too long. CarolSue, can I maybe get a yard of the sailor fabric from you at some point, it sounds like the goofy stuff I love... I had a sailor boyfriend once, maybe that's another reason it is calling to me....Finally found my camera cord so tomorrow I will try and post a few photos. It is so weird. I read over the instructions every time (not too many brain cells left, don't you know?) and it works maybe every seventh time, I know it is just my pathetic computer skills at work, but I need a magic button or somthing...I got enough of the other buttons, where's the one I need? Time for bed, it's nice and cold here so I'll be snuggling down with a quilt and a wool blanket and some cats, and a library book........Karin

Jeez.. that was getting long & drawn out talking about a stupid cold.. wasn't it?
ANYWAY!! Yes! I am So addicted to Quilts.. May be the One thing I'd say I would pick to collect if I could only choose one.. But God.. how I'd have to make THAT decision!
I used to have one of My Spare Bedrooms completely decorate in Quilts! EVERYWHERE.. EVERYTHING in there!! One or two on the bed.. usually made up.. with another layered at the bottom.. then a smaller throw quilt on it.. quilted pillow shams.. Stacks of Quilts ALL over the room.. on a chair.. on the back of the chair.. on the foot board of the bed.. as a Valance above the curtain.. as a Rug next to the bed! Layning on top of the trunk! You name it! I also had pictures & ceramic plaques that had quilts on them.. i even have Wooden fugures either holding a tiny quilt.. And a porceline Cow that is painted like a quilt.. Quilt Bears.. AND i have dolls that I've made over the years that i've used VERY old ratted up quilts as thier dresses!
ANYTHING with a Quilt! Went into THAT room! But.. now our oldest Son Jeff has moved back home.. it's his room.. So I've had to disperse the quilts all over the rest of the house.. so you just don't get quite that same inpact! but they are still awesome.. I had posted a Picture once befor.. Inside my living room.. on either side of my livingroom windows I have taken apart a Quilts rach from it's hinges.. & hung one on either side.. & hung a couple quilts on each .. So it looks like Quilt Shutters Inside my living room.. Really pretty neat I think..
