With all of the cool sewing books out there you'd think stores would be ADDING sewing and embroidery departments! We do have a Hancock and a Michael's that have floss, but not much else. Even their selection of kits, etc, are skimpy.
One place I particularly like for embroidery supplies is www.nordicneedle.com.
They have dmc and anchor floss and many other kinds of thread. LOTS of patterns and technique books for many kinds of neele work. And they will send you a free catalog if you request one. They have monthly freebee coupons when you make a certain size purchase as well.

Yeah I find both of them kind of skimpy on the embroidery front as well. I find Hobby Lobby to have the most. But, at least Michael's and Hancock's has some things. AC Moore here has nothing for embroidery.

I also found a few embroidery books at a local Pearl Craft store if you have one of those.

Well maybe since Wal-Mart is no longer carrying that kind of thing then some of the mom and pop stores will have a chance! I knew they were closing some fabric departments but didn't think they'd get rid of craft items too.

Okay, at present we have 3 Walmarts in town, one out in the valley, one way north and one central. The one in the valley had very little embrdiery thread and it was 10c, the one by me was still 24c and don't know about the one north. Picked up some. Every little penny counts.

I've been stocking up, most around here have no thread or very little left. However the one closest to me, must of gotten a new shipment cause there is all kinds out there now. (they never had anything when it was full price!) So I will be going and stocking up soon. I hope they get a lot of 433, and 369. Two colors I use a lot of! lol 10 cents is quite a discount compared to the 33 cents I pay at Michael's! lol

Thanks girls for all the input! I at least hope the mom and pop stores will have a chance again, just wish our town would get some that carry craft supplies!

Just got back from a WalMart near me and it's 10 cents there too. They still have a good bit left, so if anyone needs any, let me know. I'll be more than happy to send you out some. Just let me know the number of the thread and how many.

I checked at my WalMart today and it's also 10 cents. There was a ton of floss, but none in the colors I use.

The only reason I ever walked into a walmart is to get craft supplies, but now with them all getting rid of crafts I'm not sure what small towns are going to do. I like HERRSCHNERS but also fabric.com is a great source. JoAnn.com also is good.

You know...I only used to go into Walmart for fabric and embroidery stuff. Of course, then I would proceed to spend lots more money on other things while I am there. Guess they will not be getting my money anymore.

The one near us has their thread for 10 cents too. It's not marked so I had to check it out first. Bought all I needed. Some to add to gifts too! The only thing is they didn't have some of the colors. Have to check Joann fabrics. They are having a sale on it this next weekend.

A.C Moore usually has their embroidery thread on sale 4 for $1. They have tons of colors. Do you ladies have an A.C Moore near you or is JoAnns cheaper than A.C Moore's sale price? I have all those stores near me, but I favor A.C Moore. Michael's is expensive so I never go there.

Heather - what colors did you need? I may have it. i really don't use embroidery thread that much. My daughter did at one time and gave me a huge bag full of different colors. I might have what your looking for.

Heather,
The sale is DMC floss 5/$1. Still not 10 cents but hey you get it where you can sometimes, yes?

WOW 5/1.00 is great!

Actually there is more AC moores close to me. But, 4/1.00 is JoAnn's normal price. I'm new to AC though. I grew up with Michael's, when there wasn't much other out there. Then we got Hobby Lobby. Then others-like walmart. But, then I moved to NYC, and we have one JoAnn's, but a lot of AC Moore's and lots more Michael's. The only thing that sometimes evens out the price for me, is Michael's by me has no sales tax! lol So sometimes with a 1/2 off coupon I make a pretty good deal. But, mostly like you said it is expensive.

I will look up the numbers I need and let you know. Thanks!

I know that this was posted last month, but it was soon after you posted this that I was at our local Wal-Mart. The woman told the manager that these women came in and bought all the embroidery floss that they had. When I mentioned what was said in this post, both the manager and the woman behind the cutting table were shocked.

Wow, I'm coming in on this a bit late, but I was at Walmart a week or so ago, and noticed that their entire needlework section had been cleared out, threads, aida cloth, everything. I was ticked off, assuming they were discontinuing it. Now I'm even more bummed to find out that other Walmarts are clearing out the rest of their craft and fabric section as well. I'm going to check out other area Walmarts and see if they have any thread left. Hopefully I'm not too late!!!

Herrschners is a good catalog. We used to provide them with needlework kits of our designs, and they carry lots of needlework supplies.

Wal-Mart will always cater to what the market is buying. They have to. So many women knit now. How is Wal-Mart's yarn department?

Also try Yarn Tree and threadart.com
