I'm finding that a lot of my customers are asking for a website. I have no, I repeat, absolutely no idea of where to start to get a website for my business. Can someone point me in the right direction? |

I can point you to a site that will teach you how to make your own web site, and even how to drive traffic to it. You can use everything at that site for free for the first 30 days. After that, they charge $29.98 per month.
For that fee, you get personal access to folks who will work with you as you design your own web site. You get a full syllabus of lessons you can take. The lessons teach you everything you need to know about having an "online presence". You also get access to a forum that is full of helpful folks. Oh, and you also get a place to host your web site. There's a ton more if you're interested.
I've been personally associated with this program since 2001 (shortly after it's inception), and always recommend it to folks who are just getting started.
While $30 a month may sound like a lot to spend, keep in mind that if a professional were to do your site for you, it would cost well over $1500, and you'd still not know anything about marketing your business, or updating any of the things on your site.
If you want the link, contact me personally.

Hi Sherri, I use a service called u-maintain-it, which is basically a do-it-yourself web site builder. You can choose from several packages, including some used for small business. They cater mostly to crafters & artists. It's very easy to use, no html experience needed, and the cost is reasonable at $20 per month. They can also help you purchase your domain name (example: mikesgirl.com)for a small fee (around $8.00) and sumbit your site to search engines (this is what gets your site to the top of the list when folks do a search). They will also design a graphics package for you if you don't have one (you need one). You can do your own graphics or have an independent designer do one for you. Kristal at peddlergraphics.com did my package for around $110 and she was a DELIGHT to work with-even though it was a month before her own wedding! I highly recommend her.
I started out knowing NOTHING, and had no trouble setting up my site. UMI will walk you through everything and will answer questions by email or telephone. I have U-maintain-it package C, which gives me lots of room for photos of my work & also a shopping cart. And they are very nice people. :)
You can look things over at u-maintain-it.com (this has been an UNpaid advertisement). ![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif)
Hope that helps you out Sherri.

Sherri - what types of items do you sell? I found a site on the web that offers mini-shoppe's for $5 a month but it's geared more towards primitives and country. It's all set up for you. All you have to do is add product. Even has a PayPal shopping cart. I'm going to do this until I have time to have a regular website. I have my domain name and just set up forwarding to go to my mini-shoppe. It was all very easy. I don't have all my stuff in there yet but you're welcome to take a look.

Wow, what super information. Thank you all so much. I am doing Etsy right now and just getting started. I will in the future want a web site to market my pet treats and all this information will be so useful. Thank you once again Farm Girls, Barbara

I use Microsoftfront page to design out website, but buy space online for the monthly website space. I do not like to use alot of other webhost software. I use my own and with frontpage you can insert pictures, files movies whatever and if you like using html codes you can do that as well. Or simple insirt a picture its so easy! Anyway website space can run in ranges of prices. Depending on if you use their softare (already on their site) or use your own. You can build your own site or have it built for you. Use flash or not use flash. Matters what the site is for. Anyway not much help but if you have any specific questions I can try and be of help. Bless you Mary
