Hi Girls,

Just wanted to write down how I am feeling lately. With DH gone to war, I am basically a single parent...and very, very tired. Since we have lived here (it is 3 months now), it has been go, go, go, go. All summer I was out and about taking my elderly mother and husbands grandmother to doctors, shopping, hairdressers and markets because they don't drive, as well as setting up this house by myself and maintaining the yard.....so when school started last week, I assumed my schedule would slow down....but my 2 teens play soccer and have either practise or a game so we are never home except for Sunday....my son is having a hard time getting his homework done because of soccer...and I think playing sports are good but I am conflicted. If it interferes with school is it worthwhile? So I am worried about all my kids because of the late nights we have and the toll it is taking on them. Plus I am so tired too. The house is not getting cleaned the way I like it and I can't decide if I should take a nap or force myself through the tiredness and play catch-up around the house....do you farmgirls ever feel this way and what do you do? Just feel completely overwhelmed...Thanks, Erica

Erica, I think we all feel this way at some point, but you have the ADDED stress of your DH being off to war. The majority of us don't have to deal with that one. Thank you for that sacrifice. I don't have many answers here, but I was wondering if you are on or near a base? Thinking that maybe you are near other women going through the same thing and there may be a support group out there. They would very likely have some great ideas to help combat stress, and you may even meet some women that would swap jobs with you to give you all a break.
Hope all goes well for you!
~Blessings,
B

Hugs to you, Erica. And like Bonnie said, thank you and your husband for the sacrifices you are making for the greater good. Are your children (willing and able) helping with chores at all? Have you talked with your soccer playing kids about grade expectations? If they are playing for their school, the coach should be keeping on top of their academic performance. Does the grocery store offer delivery service that you could take advantage of maybe every other week? Housecleaning is less important than your family's health and happiness, so try not to beat yourself up over that. And if you force yourself to do anything, I vote for taking a nap or putting your feet up and flipping through a magazine for half an hour. That short break might make a big difference. You cannot take good care of anybody or anything else unless you take good care of yourself, so be good to you!! Thank goodness the yardwork will really slow down once cold weather arrives, too. We're all rooting for you! Nance

Erica - How hard it must be with you playing the role of both parents and having your husband away. As a mom of 5 I was ALWAYS tired. But in truth there are a few things that might help. I would mark the last day of soccer down to remind myself that this too shall pass My agreement with my kids when we had all 5 playing on softball teams were that they had to help with chores and keep up grades to play. Talk with the coaches and let them know that if a big test or assignment is coming up your child may need to stay home. Stick to your guns on it.What about car pooling? Remember you do not have to be at every practice or game. I use to run myself ragged doing that! I figue if I hit 80% I was doing good.

As for the chores we did those on Saturday mornings or afternoons. Everyday pick up was all of our responsiblities. Sudndays were a take a break day - Church, books, relaxation. Remember you can not do it all. Both you and the kids need to have down time in order to be sane. Best of luck!
