today my 5 year old fell down our stairs head over heals a few times before landing at the bottom of the stairs. We took her to the doctor and a chiropractor she seems to have a whiplash effect happening from it and it through her spine out of whack. She has to go back friday just keep her in your thoughts as she is not supposed to play ruff or do anything that will hurt her more. Try to expalin this to an overly active 5 1/2 year old. Just keep her in your thoughts and send prayers that she will mind mom and the doctor on my being overly active for a few days and careful as she almost falls 4 or 5 times a day with our stairs. We had told her millions of times ( and it does feel like millions) to hold the banister when going down or up the stairs. We have a real plush carpeted stairs and we think that is the problem she thinks the steps are about 2 inches longer than they are due to teh carpet being wrapped around then edge of the stairs. Which makes them look like they have deeper treads than they do. I am hoping she learns from this but I am thinking not as she fell again about 4 hours ago before we went to the chiro.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

Blessings to her, Sunshine, and you, trying to keep her off the stairs!!! I used to fall down ours, too, but I eventually learned to take them a little slower, and not 3 at a time!

Keep plenty of games on hand you can play inside, and maybe upstairs :)

her bed room is up stairs so that is going to be hard. I woke up this morning to the sound of her falling down the stairs by the time I was able to realize what I was hearing and what was going on to get to her she of course had already stopped falling and was crying uncontrollablye for 30 minuets not the way I want to wake up in the morning

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

Certainly, not!!! Poor thing. My mom used to pick me up and dust me off and quickly say, "You're alright! You're alright! and then, "Blow on your boo-boo's" so I'd start focusing on "blowing" on them, rather than the pain. Mom's are smart like that!

I do hope tomorrow is a better day for all.

OH Sunshine, I will say a prayer for her. When my son was 2 he broke his leg. The Dr told me to keep him off it for about 2 days. We ended up getting home from the hospital about 2 in the morning. I pulled out the sofa bed and he went to sleep with me. The next morning at 7am he woke me up. He was walking all around on that cast! I called the Dr and he said you really can't keep the quiet if they don't want to be! Kids are pretty amazing. I will say a prayer for you too (you'll probably need it more than her!;) )

normally when she slips on the stairs she rides them down on her bum. Then she just pops up and tells me "I am fine no worries" Today I asked her if no worries and she said no I hurt. Her explanation of the fall ( I didn't see it just heard it) was that she first landed on her head them her bunda (bum) then her head then her bunda then her head then her back some how she did a summer salt too as her head was near the stairs and her feet away from them which is not normal for head over heals. The doctor thinks that is how she through two vertebra out in her upper and one in her lower back. She also had 3 messed up in her neck those he thinks are from the repeated impacts to her head her neck is swollen and the top of her head, left shoulder and right hip are bruised.n She also has awwwee teeth as she puts it the doctor thinks that she smashed her teeth against each other each time she hit making her mouth hurt. luckily he said her tongue didn't get between them also lucky she is 5 1/2 as he said if she was much older her neck probably would have broke instead of just flexing out of place ( he said she was lucky not to be paralyzed)

We will certainly be praying for the active little one. You want to allow them to have their curiosity and adventuresome spirits but some days it does try a mother's nerves. Praying....

Sunshine, I hope your little girl mends quickly and learns to slow down on those new stairs! Maybe you need to start having everyone go down the stairs on their bunda from now on: bump, bump, bump instead of using their feet...make a game of it! She is very lucky not to have been hurt more, and if I remember correctly, you have to be careful with her anyway...good luck!

Sweet Sunshine, I'm surrounding your precious little one with healing. Are we lucky that kids are so rubbery? My middle child, Peter, was accident prone as a little one. He was in the ER so often, they once thought we were abusing him. No worries, we weren't and they knew it, and I'm glad to see they were on the ball. He also had asthma and almost died once. He was in the hospital for a week and they weren't sure he'd make it. He's now a strong, handsome 37-year-old. I know it's hard not to worry and you did the right thing. Let's just give thanks that she's OK!

love,
Patricia

Poor little girl! I hope she'll be all better real soon. Carpeted stairs are so dangerous. When we first moved into our farmhouse, the stairs were done that way and I often slipped on them, especially when just wearing socks or slippers. Maybe after this, you could consider a safer alternative. We just have bare wood but with some kind of finish that isn't slippery. But first things first! We'll be keeping her recovery in mind at our house.

Here's hopeing she makes a speedy recovery. I can feel for her - I slipped on carpeted stairs once (I have a bad back from a car accident) and boy did it hurt. We have wood stairs with just the individual runners taped to each stair. Works wonders. ((Hugs)) to the little one and to you and DH.

I am so sorry to hear about your little one falling (several times.) When my youngest son was little we were in the emergency room for stitches and breaks and the like. They started saying that I was abusing him. Luckily, two of our cousins worked in the ER and vouched that I was really a good mom and he was just a wee bit clumsy. He is now 23 yrs. old and to this day he can look at a knife and get cut! Prayers to you and to her. Love to you, Mommom

she cries when I brush her hair as they all have real long hair so brushing pulls on the nap of her neck and she said it makes her dizzy I am not happy with that as it makes no since to me.

It sounds like her equilibrium is still off. Any tipping of the head can cause dizziness. If you are returning to the doctor soon- you might want to mention it.
