I'm doing a project and need to find a town in Maine that fits a particular description. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Criteria:
1. Small town, NOT touristy
2. On the ocean
3. Not too far north -- winters can't be severe

I've tried to find such a town before but haven't had much luck. I've consulted books like Frommers and online searches, but I tend to find touristy places.

Thanks for your help.

If you don't want to live in Portland then I would go for Brunswick Maine. I spent a month there and really loved it. It is a small town north of portland so it isn't to severe and still has costal and inlet water areas. It is also close enough to drive to portland, kettery, and the rest of southern maine.

Rockland Maine is really great! They are know for the Maine Lobster Festival but the rest of the year it is a really quiet quaint town.

My sister lived in New Harbor, Maine and really enjoyed it. They lived right on the water. My mom says it was kind of touristy, but you wouldn't really know it because the "money" houses were hidden behind a lot of trees. :)
