| I was wondering if any of my fellow farmgirls crochet? If you do, the what do you like to make? I make afghans, baby items, and clothing accessories like hats, scarves, etc..I love it and I also do plastic canvas and a little quilting. I crochet, but only baby blankets, LOL. I do so many things already that I refuse to learn anything more then baby blankets!!! I can make one for anyone in my family or even for friends as I will have 9 months warning, LOL. But as I already quilt and sew, and bake wedding cakes, and make cards and scrapbook things, and decorate pic frames, and throw tea parties, that I have refused to go any further as far as crocheting things oh and I also decided not to learn to make jewelry. Oh I have crochted my family members scarfs as well. So baby blankets and scarfs!!!

I crochet a very little. I think that if I want to learn anything beyond the very basics I'll have to have someone teach me because I just can't seem to teach myself how to do the more difficult stuff.

I crochet beautiful fancy sweaters for my 4# Yorkie doggie  I like crocheting with vintage buttons to make bracelets and necklaces. I crochet purses using ribbon and rayon seam tapes..Really cool looking and very upscale looking also. Gosh, I guess there's not much I haven't crocheted..LOL
Artsy Jackets to dishclothes and everything in between. It's very relaxing.

Wow, everyone sounds like they have so much talent! I am still at the pot-holder stage. :) I have tried a few more difficult things, and just met frustration. I am REALLY trying to get it together to do a baby afghan, and after several attempts and failures, had to take a break for a few days. I only have a few weeks left to finish it before the baby! I will have to check those links to see if there's a better/ more understandable pattern. Thanks!

I made a afghan for my son and recently one for my cats! I want to make doilies but have yet to try.

Molly, don't give up. Like learning any new craft it takes practice, practice, practice. Keep at it and you'll get it in the end. I got one of those CDs that you can load into your computer or TV and learn by watching. It really helped me. Up side is that you can stop it or go back over something again and again. They're only about $10/15.00 and well worth the investment. I have one for crochet and for knitting.
I love to make dish rags and just make them and then give them away to everybody. It's just mind-less crocheting in front of the TV at night. Also do the scarves for all the grandkids (11). Going to start making a baby afghan for my son and new wife - they said they're trying, so better get started. Like all of you, I have several WIP projects all over my craft room. Going to expand my horizons and try crocheting baby items - sweaters, hats, etc. There are just too many cute patterns out there. But also have crocheted lots of afghans for other family members - they go up so quickly, more so than knitting.
Tammy, thanks for all the web-sites. I've checked out a few of them already. You're right - there is just a ton of places to find info and patterns. Love it, love it, love it!

I too am a novice crocheter,,,,
I have crocheted several Shell pattren afgahns and a hand full of dish cloths & a couple of simple scarfs. Other than that, I am a beginner & a dreamer of that "one beautiful sweater" that I will some day crochet.
I love to look through Herrshners, Lee Wards & other catalogs that sell crocheting/knitting goodies.
Now that I am retired maybe I will finally get to fufill my dream of learning to be a better crocheter.

There is a great book you can get at the library (hopefully) called Crochet School. I learned from books and online sites. There is also a book called The Happy Hooker...lol. She has instructions and projects in her book. Go to a local library or check out www.lionbrand.com Their site has an e-book you can download and print out. I did and I keep it in a binder for reference. It's nice to see yarn turn into beautiful fabric! Don't give up if you are just learning!!

| I crochet. I think I prefer it to knitting (gasp!) I just got the Happy Hooker book, and I love it. I LOVE the idea of crocheting jewelry! (But bead and wire jewelry is also an interest of mine, I haven't had the chance to learn or practice that yet.) And I want to make some string grocery bags, and some snoods, some snowflakes for the Xmas tree... stuff like that. I don't do well on large projects. I've been trying to knit a shawl for 4 years now! |

Yep, crocheted for years. Have done a bunch of afghans. A couple are on my blog including the hardest one I have done, the aran one.
A way to make afghans go faster is to use double strands of yarn. There's a book called "Afghans on the Double" that is all two strands of yarn at a time. I have used it many times.
Yeah, I knit too but when you make a mistake in crochet you don't always have to pull out your stitches. :-)

I love to crochet! I can't knit very well...I was trying to learn, but I put that aside for more pressing things...like housework and reading too many books...
I have crocheted many scarves and hats and I love to use crochet thread and make tiny things, like the bitty bunny I crocheted for my MIL and the bookmark I made for my best friend out of sewing thread ;}

I've made everything from a filet crochet owl wall-hanging, and doilies & thread bookmarks, to afghans, baby booties & mitts, pillows, coasters, cotton grocery bags (my current favorite project), dishcloths, even the bodice of a dress for my daughter. About the only thing I've never crocheted is anything in tunisian crochet. As for how long, I've had the skill for almost 8 years now.
Actually was working on a dishcloth for an Autumn exchange as part of one of my online groups, while I was following DD & DH around Old Navy today, doing clothes shopping. I kept getting wierd looks as I was walking & crocheting at the same time. LOL |

Yes, I crochet. I make accessories (hats, scarves, hair scrunchies), baby blankets, bookmarks, coin purses and little purses to hold a credit card and ID, or a temple recommend, dish cloths and wash cloths. I used to make some easy clothing, but that was when my aunt, a super-crocheter, lived with us and she helped me so much! I'm currently looking for an easy vest pattern. I also want to give a try at the cotton grocery bags.

| Sunshine,I just viewed your website and I'm so impressed! Lord you are amazing. The baby dresses and bonnets are so beautiful. How long have you been crocheting? I too crochet but no way could I make those beautiful little dresses with such tiny thread. I did recently make Mrs. Butters Hexagon which was a huge deal for me. It was my first fancy pattern that I had success with and only because the directions were so clear and easy to follow. I think I used size 30 thread? I'll have to check. I"ll have to practice alot with the smaller thread. I am working on more hexagons to make a tablecloth with eventually. I can crochet scarves, dishcloths. Would love to make some lace for a christening gown I am planning on sewing soon. Again you are a very talented lady to make the beautiful things that you have on your site. I would love to sit and watch you work your magic. Maybe I would learn something! |

I started crocheting about 10 years ago when I was pregnant with our first daughter. Self taught first project was size 30 thread and drafted my own pattern as I taught myself to make a pair of baby lace gloves for my first babies blessing (christening) haven't looked back since. I can figure out most patterns just by a looking at them a few have stumped me for a few days but haven't had that problem much. i haven't made a table cloth for myself yet but I have repaired or finished so many for other people in size 30 thread I probably have actually made about 10 or more. If you ever come to Utah you are welcome to stop by and say hi and visit for a little bit.

I crochet too! Mostly baby blankets. I did manage to make an afghan each for my MIL & FIL. I am not too sure about the more difficult stitches, so mostly stick to the basics. Sometimes I have a little trouble w/the pattern (reading it & getting it right even after doing it over several times). I have also made some dishcloths. I really like crocheting, it is really relaxing & I can take it pretty much anywhere. I don't know how to knit. My mom had some needles when I was young, but she wasn't patient enough to learn it or keep up with it if she had learned it. She said knitting or crochet would be perfect for me since I like to fidget.

I think my next crochet project will be mitens for my granbaby and my youngest daughter. I also want to learn filet crochet, but I think that will wait until the fall. I do some plastic canvas and my daughter has already made a request for something. Whew, no wonder my hands hurt!!
