LOVE IT!!!!!! That's the prettiest apron I've seen in ages. I printed it out large scale to look at the details, but I have a few questions. I'm not a novice sewist...but I was wondering how the waist strap is fastened in the back Is it in the back with a button?? And the neck/shoulder straps...are they sewn in....and you lift the apron over your head to put it on??? I see them tucked under in the back, like they're sewn into the waistband.....but then they tie in the front. Unbefuddle me??!
Warmly, Lisa

Oh, I'm so glad you like the Briar Rose. It is now with a farmgirl from down under! Let's see, I think I ended up just letting it tie around the neck, but it would be an easy matter to put buttons on the neck ties and button holes on the back waist band on both sides The waist band was made with extra long ties so they could be wrapped to the front on a small person or tied in back for a larger person. There is one major change I have made to this pattern though. I would not put any gathered fullness in bib at the waistline. Make your waistline bib measurement the width you want your final bib plus hems. But then fan it out towards the top of the bib to be gathered. That way you have the bustline fullness for larger busts, and it can be cinched in for smaller busts.
The skirt part is just a simple 45" width fabric with the finished factory selvedges on the side seams and then cut to the desired skirt length and hemmed. I usually make my half aprons this way and then gather according to how large the waistline is. I then cut the waistband about 4 inches less than the finished waist...gives it plenty of tie room and coverage when tied on.
Hope this helps some.
Glad you liked it. G

Georgann, My program won't let me download a winzip file. Is there any other way to get the pattern for the 1949 apron? thanks, Denise
