Please say one for my 18 year old farm cat, Ginger. She and her brother and only other litter mate, Fred, were given to me by a friend. They came from her farm. We have been treating Ginger for several weeks for a diagnosed ear infection. Then we were told she had ear polyps. Now, last week, we have been informed that she has a tumor in her head and there is nothing we can do but let her go. The vet has given her a shot of something to give her some energy, but her kidneys will eventually(soon) be destroyed by the shots. Ginger is still eating and her kidneys still function, but she staggers when she walks. We are heartbroken. I hope and pray that we have the strength to know when to let her go so she won't be in any pain.

Our girl lasted longer than I ever thought she would. I guess her barn cat genes were pretty strong. We finally had to let her go last night. I'm very sad today(and it's been gloomy and rainy for days, so that doesn't help - water, water everywhere). But she went peacefully, with us stroking her. My dh gave her the shot, so she could die at home, where she had lived. I'm at peace because she finally is.

Janice, I am so sorry for your Ginger. I do treat my cats and have treated some that have passed away, with BACH FLOWERS remedies. For animals that are close to death, GORSE is helping them to peacefully let go. You will find the Flowers remedies at you health store. They DO make a difference.
I will pray for her and for your family, it is so hard to see them go through the end.

Everyone of my cats has lived to at least 18 years--one made it to 21. I had a 3 day rule about my aging cats and eating. If they went 3 days without eating and barely drinking any water, I decided that the suffering was long enough. I broke that rule with my last old cat and regretted it, as she died on the way to the vet and suffered too much. So sorry to hear about your dear kitty. Somehow it seems to get harder to say goodbye with to each animal we love, even though we know intellectually what's going on, emotionally it is just plain rough to make the final decision to put them to sleep. And yes, I'll say one for your dear Ginger.

Oh, Janice, I'm so sorry. Just love and love her these last days. It was the same with my gran's Matilda--she was diagnosed with a tumor on her tongue, and we just loved her and loved her.

It's soo difficult to let them go, but you love her and she knows that, truly.

My fur clan and I will be thinking of you and Ginger.

dear janice,
so sorry to hear about your troubles with ginger.
every time i adopt out a little stray kitty from here i hope and pray that they will have a home like the home your beloved ginger has had.
i will be thinking of you and your sweet ginger this week.
and corrine louise, i will be looking into the bach flowers remedies, i have not heard of them, but it sounds very interesting.
after seeing all the little kitties here coming and going and agonizing over giving up on the hope that we could help in some way...it is so nice to be able to come to this site and know that there are people who treasure and love their little kitties.

love

Janice, your beautiful is transitioning out of a body that no longer works for her. It's difficult because you know you'll be separated from a dear friend. Know that love endures. Did you know that pets can come back to us? they do. I can find out for you about Ginger if you'd like. Also, I can teach you a simple treatment that will ease her final days. Don't worry, when she's ready, if she can't make the transition herself, she will let you know. Email me if you want.

Farmgirl hug,
Patricia

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers, everyone. We're taking it day by day. I started giving her Rescue Remedy over the weekend, Corrinne - I have it already for my dog with epilepsy(it's kept him from seizure at least twice). And she is still eating, her kidneys are still working and she is so far pain free. One of her eyes is nearly closed, though.

Hi Janice,

Just sending some gentle hugs your way for Ginger. Love the name pairing, too. I have many friends with "Fred and Ginger" or "Fred and Ethel" furbabies. Good luck to you; she's a very lucky feline to be so loved during these last days.

Janice, I'm so very sorry. You're right, though, she is at peace, and being at home when you pass--well, the thought to me is so comforting, and I know she WAS comforted and so well loved.

She can have a lovely spot on a hill at your farm, near some daylilies that bloom with her memory.
