I went to the Ekka (slang for exhibition) on Tuesday. I guess most of you would probably call it a fair. It was held in the middle of a major town. A show where the country comes to the city. I had a great family day. We went on the ferris wheel, saw a circus and ate alot of icecream. We came out the gates arms laden with show bags. The only problem is this much fun costs alot of money.
What is your favourite thing to do at the fair? Have any of you won a prize for something you have entered in the fair?

Sounds like a good old fashioned state fair to me! Glad you had tons of fun. Sometimes you have to spend a little more money then you want, but the important part was you all enjoyed yourselves!
We used to go to the state fairs here every year when I was a kid. My dad always had to go look at the hogs. His father was a hog farmer. Strangely enough, I enjoyed seeing them too.

I love going to fairs. When I was a kid my first dog and I entered as part of the 4-h competition for obedience and showmanship. We won Reserve Grand Champion even though she was only about 9 months old at the time. The only negative comment that we got on our card was that she as too "Puppyish" :)

Nancy Jo, a show bag or sample bag is a bag you buy with lots of themed goodies in it. For example we bought our daughter "My little Pony Scrapbooking Bag". It had in it stickers, glitter pens, a scrapbook, a shoulder bag, and other things with my little pony on them. You can also get food ones aswell. Surely you must get these in the U.S.. If not, one of you girls should market them. As they are worth big bucks in Australia. They fill the biggest pavillion at the show!

I love going and seeing the goats. Shirley it sounds like you had so much fun. The Southwest Washington Fair was attended every year by our clan and we had such fun. Where I learned to love corn dogs and what would a fair be withtout hot corn on the cob. Yummyyy. Carol Sue

Dawn, you should have seen this massive sow at the ekka. I have never seen such a huge pig. She was feeding at least a dozen piglets.!
