i am having to bottle feed some orphaned kitties and i am using the milk substitute from the grocery store that is for kittens. it comes in small containers and i think we are paying more for gas to go into town than we should. well, thats a whole differnt subject.![](icons/icon_smile_wink.gif) anyway, i was wondering if any of you have made your own substitute from goat milk that you were happy with, or anything else. thanks for any help you can give me. 20 cats and counting, these kitties showed up the day after i placed 4 other kittens for adoption. we are covered up with kitties this year. i wish people would realize what happens when you dump pregnant cats.... oh well, theres another subject too.

Fran- You should be able to feed them goats milk just fine. if it looks like they aren't thriving on the goats milk then switch back to the formula, but I have read several sites that advocate the goats milk. I would call and double check with your vet on Monday though.

I have a baby kitty formula recipe that our local vet clinic gave to me several years ago..it works also for orphaned or abandoned baby bunnies
here it is:
1 egg yolk 1 TBS. dark Karo syrup 6 ozs. whole milk
Mix together. Feed by eyedropper every 2-3 hours.
hope this helps.

thanks so much, tina i was pretty sure some of you farmgirls would be able to help with this. we have tried for 10 years to do something to provide a home for the little abandoned cats/kitties, but this year has really overwhelmed us. i thought if i could make my own kitty milk, it might be more economical than the prepacked stuff which is about 11.00 and we have to buy about 2-3 perweek. right now we are feeding the 3 kitties and about 6-7 adult cats, and about 17 kittens that are on food. we have 1 beautiful calico mom out here that no one can touch. she lives here, but we have not been able to catch her to have her fixed, she had 2 litters, and i think she may hve another one hidden away. we have aplan....but boy are we overwhelmed. oh well, enough whining, i need to go feed kittens.

Fran, I have no advice on the kitty milk, but you are sure a great gal! I am sure there will be a whole truckload of kitties waiting to cross the rainbow bridge when you show up! Merle |
