There seems to be a "push" in Congress for extending daylight savings time an extra 4 weeks... The change would be second Sunday in march and the second Sunday in November... The reason is that it would give Americans more time to spend outdoors...and that when Americans are outdoors they spend MONEY??? I laughed when I read that! Do YOU spend money when you are outdoors??? I am working to MAKE money when outdoors... tending my vines in the vineyard, working the land, growing food to eat to save money, repairing machinary that is broken to work the land, hanging laundry to save on resources and energy, I could go on and on... The extra "hour" on the clock will NOT prompt me to go the mall to spend, spend, spend...More fuel and stupidity by government to add to mass consumerism in my opinion.

I hate the idea. I look forward to Fall/Winter...shorter days. My husband likes the idea. Doesnt have to get up so early to go hunting! At least for a few extra days in the fall. I wish they'd leave it alone altogether myself. But that cat is already out of the bag.

I am not going to spend more money either way. I don't get it either. But I am not much of a shopper to begin with.

Well girls, I did not know this is being considered; however, I have to say that I'm all for extending the hours. Just because of one thing: I go into a funk in the fall when we go back to standard time... for some reason that change to early darkness is a huge trigger for SADD. A shopper I'm not, so their reasoning is lost on me, but I'll take the daylight!!

I am all for more daylight hours but I KNOW I don't spend more money..I think that is funny.
Must be for those "power shoppers". The only place I love to shop are book stores, fabric stores, nurseries and garden centers and yarn shops..I am an equal daylight/dark shopper in those places..haha. It is good that I live so far from a big town or city...I shope when I go to "town" and then in betweeen I avoid stores all I can. School clothes shopping is coming up though...ugh! I do one big old shopping day and get it over with.
I have known people who have a hard time with less daylight hours too..that must be so hard!! So far..I havn't had that problem.

Hey Farm Girls!

I like the idea of extended daylight savings time because I always need the time to work outside and get things done at home.

HOWEVER, nothing, absolutely nothing will be persuasive or powerful enough to get me to go to a mall!!! I despise malls. In my opinion, they are just prime examples of our gluttonous, consumption-oriented soceity.

Guess that I have said my piece!

I shop whether it's daytime or nighttime (when the need arises), but I agree with Clare, I go into a funk when there's not enough daylight!!

In Florida, people would spend more while outdoors. The cost of a round of golf or a day at theme parks, at the batting cage, renting a canoe, playing tennis, or a longer day on the boat.. Here the outdoor fun (not for me, but for many) all costs money. Funny that people would think of that, though. Evening things cost money, too! Movies, dinner out, concerts...oh well, I look forward to the shorter days in the fall. The cool evenings need to have more twilight in my mind, but I am not one that relishes change.

as for me, when I am outdoors it is for a walk, a bike ride, working in the garden, cleaning my porch, or taking photos in the woods. Not much money spent there!

I dont like the idea at all. I love fall, it's my favorite season. I love daylight but once again were interfering with nature for the dollar. Havent we already messed things up by interfering? I love the change of seasons by the time one ends, Im ready for the other. I think we should leave it alone. Michele

I wasn't aware of the change until today. I just wish "they" (the powers that be") would make up their minds and not change things for thier own agenda. I agree with others, I am not going to do too many things differently, except stay out side to garden and entertain on my patio...Will I go shopping....if I need something. I don't have the energy or desire to "draw" the malls, (As my Mother used to say) no matter how many hours of daylight I have.

If this change will help our farmers...Then I am for it----If it is to entice us to spend more money---please

We have daylight saving from October till end of March. Ours was extended last year. I personally dont like it unless I am on holiday :) Tuff too for mums with little ones to get to sleep.
In New Zealand, the schools have their annual break from the 23rd December until the first week in february.

That's right, Helen, right now you are having your Winter season, aren't you?

Why does everything always have to be about money? It's so silly. I like the change in seasons and day light but it is a hard transition for me, I too am affected by SADD. More sun light sure wouldn't make me shop more.

When I think about this there can't be more sunlight...there is only 24 hours in a day...It is man's folly manipulating time...No one has figured out how to add more light in the winter months as far as I know? But the government tries to lead us to believe they can, so we'll get in our cars, buy more gas and go to the M and spend!!!!
