One of my co-workers went for a walk today and came back to tell me I should take my car and drive around the block. Someone was cleaning out thier house and had a pile of yarn with a "Free" sign on it out in the front yard. Who am I to argue with a co-worker??
So, I dutifully got in the car, drove around the block, stopped and got 3 boxes. One full of Aunt Lydia's Rug Yarn. One full of fabric and cut out quilt squares that I thought were for a 9 patch quilt. One, plastic sewing box full, and I mean the lid was taped on because it was so full of laces and edgings. I took pictures and am putting them on my blog.
When I first picked up the box of fabric & squares I saw triangles and I thought they were cut as well, but they were really the cut squares folded in half and then each of the sides folded in to the middle and tacked down to make a little fabric triangle. Is this a quilting method? What do you think she was going to do with these? I don't know much about quilting, so maybe someone has the answer.
Lots of the fabric also has a sheen to it. I really think it's cotton, but some of it almost feels waxy. I haven't gone through all of it yet, but some of the selvages say "A Waverly Bonded Glosheen". Any clues?
What a fun find!!

Great find~!! I think the squares that were folded in were the beginning of a Cathedral Window Quilt. Below is a link you can see the steps to make a Cathedral Window Quilt.

Kathy, the triangle might be use to do some Christmas decoration, using a styroform egg shaped forms and tackling each triangles on row, alternating colors, up to the top. I will post a picture latter on. Corinne |

Y'know, Nancy, I thought the same thing--makes me wonder where all my yarn & fiber & fabric will end up. My husband hasn't got a clue what to do if i drop over, and no-one in my family (my 2 daughters included) has any interest in anything textile or fiber related. My mom has gone through the china cabinet and labeled things so we know who gets the cardinals and the ceramic bunny collection and the china when she dies. Makes me want to start doing the same thing with my yarn, fiber, & fabric!!

Kathy -- Good going! I think the cotton fabric with a high sheen is probably for drapes or upholstery, especially if it is marked Waverly. I just love that you found so much good stuff -- and kudos to your coworker letting you know!

Great stuff Kathy...lucky you...you know my sister has several times let my husband know that if I die at any point...she will be incharge of my craft closet and all my bins of fabric. She apparently is counting on inheritting my stash. Now, I am only 30 and have never been ill a day in my life!!! BUt my husband finds it comforting that he wont have to deal with it and another closet will be free of clutter. Good Luck with all your great stuff Kathy!! |
