Thought this would be pretty fun to see where we all create.. doesn't mean it's the place we actualy get our inpiration from.. But we usualy do most of our crafting at.. I know before i ever used to have my very own SPECIAL sewing/crafting/office type room.. Seems most times I wound up at the dining room table! & it was such a pain in the butt to lug my things around all the time back & forth after dinner & stuff..
That sometimes I felt as if it just wasn't worth it to try to drag it all out again later..
But now.. I know more then anything.. I REALLY probably needed it.. I needed the therapy that crafting.. sewing. & creating really gives me.. That times to be in my own world.. in my own thoughts.. really just to be to myself I guess.. even if i can hear the rest of the family still milling around the house.. even still talking to everyone.. I need to be able to do things with my hands!!

NOW.. I am lucky enough to actually have my very own room for all my stuff.. which is great.. because i REALLY am such a huge
Pack Rat.. as I have mentioned before..
But for me.. It's very comforting to have all my things all around me.. & this.. all though it may look really awful.. Is truly.. My organized chaos!

So.. share you stories.. & pictures.. IF YOU DARE!!

As we walk into my sewing room.. Immediatly to the left..

Then swooping over to the right a bit..

Then turning around completely to the right again..

( Let me know if these imagese don't turn out.. Remember.. I JUST tonight got the thing fixed up again!! So what may look ok on my end.. Doesn't mean it looks good for all of you too!! I know that the 1st one is a bit smalled..)

that's what I need to do...organize my chaos...now it's in words, maybe I can make it happen!!! I love all your treasures and can see why you're happy to be in there. I can't take pictures until I can actually get into the room and turn around :) It's going to happen, though.

Hi Ronna and Kathie,
I bet you both create some wonderful things when that sewing machine is humming. Isn't it wonderful to have your own space? I am working towards that goal again, but am not there yet. Of course Ronna knows what I do and I am glad to meet you both!

Oh Kathie girl,
Great room, don't you love actually having your own space. Maybe that what it is about,
having our own space. I don't have a digital, so will have to try and explain. My door opening is in the middle of the wall, remember I live in a 12 x 60, I have an old pair of french doors that my dh wants to install for me( someday, but the thought counts right now) as you step in the door to your left is an old upright piano. Yes, I said piano, my brother had it and gave it to me, eventually we plan to enclose a front porch area and will put it there. Right next to the piano is a cupboard that I made to the height needed for a cutting table. It is small but holds a huge cutting mat. When you walk in straight in front of you is the window, sitting in front of the window is my desk, which is an old dresser that I revamped cause I loved the lines of it. Then on the wall to the right, is my sewing area. My sewing desk is an oak door that we attached to the wall, ergonamically correct height which really really helped. at the end of the table is built in bookshelves that hold books, notebooks with projects in it, photo boxes and it stores and old sewing machine. On both the left and right walls are shelving that goes all the way across both walls. They hold some fun stuff, like 2 teddy bears. Each Teddy bear has a matching bear that each granddaughter has, an old picnic basket, then there are all the plastic bins that hold quilt projects and some embordiery projects. Have 2 larger baskets that hold, patterns and finished quilt tops ready to be quilted. There are proably 14 or 15 plastic bins. My ironing board is set up right in front of the piano. I used an old door, put nails in it and hung up all my rulers and other accesories. Using every available space is something yo have to do in small spaces. Any space for that matter. I love having my own space, it use to be our bedroom, when our son moved out we moved to the back bedroom and converted the front. Before that everything was major squished in the living room, not sure how we even did that, but we did. Now mind you, I have a shed in the back yard that we call our little quilt barn, that holds extra fabric and everything else, Christmas decorations, the extra bed frame from my Grandma, you name it. So that is a view from my place.
Carol Sue

Enjoying the moments.

I love your shelves and how organized you are. I need to clean before I would take a picture.... otherwise I fear TLC would expose my fabric and craft supplies as an obsessive compulsive hoarding disorder and try to take it away!

obsessive compulsive hoarding disorder

aha, that's what Larry said I had. Asked where he heard it, he said Dr Phil. Told him he never watches Dr Phil and he said he saw about it on Law and Order.
Couldnt argue too much, since it's true!

Elizabeth!!
You better show a picture!! My room is so full of crap! I am forever having to defend & explain myself!! People walk in there & just go.. " Holy S*@% !" There's so much stuff.. & to the left.. under that long table.. I have tubs full of fabric.. ! But did you see what I did with the fabric I use most often? On that wall that has the Dick & Jane Poster? above it & have mounted plastic Milk Crates & organized alot of my fabrics in there!! up high above the two rocking chairs!!
This has to be one of the best things I've done! I can look right there & see what i have for Fabric! I love it!!

Carol.. Your Room sounds So perfect!! i love all the things you've done to create space from things that was were never there to start with.. & the Doors for tables! i love that too! Doors for a table always are so cool!! & You HAVE to get your French doors in.. Even if you can only manage one of them up.. it will really open up the room.. Both Doors may take up two much wall space.. Unless you put something in front of one of the doors.. & just intend on opening the one side.. i know in my room it actually has two doors that swing open..
But i just open one of them.. the other is behind that great big white shelving thing.. I KNEW i needed the wall space more then i needed the extra door.. besides.. my doors weren't pretty either!!

OK ..More pictures Babies!!

Man I wish I had a room all to myself. My husband and I each had a spare room until we had our first son, then we shared a room, then we had our second son, so now my stuff is everywhere. And I do mean everywhere. There is stuff in my son's closet, scrapbooking, fabric, yarn, and patterns in the living room. Fabric, sewing machine, yarn, beads, and other stuff in the corner of the kitchen. Plus some cross stitching stuff in the bedroom. It's no wonder my house is a disaster.

PlumCreekMama..everytime I see you name it reminds me of Kalipsell, Montana. Everything around that area that has to do with land or lumber is owned by the Company with the name Plum Creek. It's a catchy name for sure.

Boy, I jsut love reading where you all are crafting. It inspires me and gets my brain moving. Some day soon (maybe by the end of this year?) I will ahve a studio psace i nthe garage and I can't wait to implement some of these ideas.

In the meantime, I have the dining room area. Our house is open around a center staircase to the upstairs (and to the basement) So, one half has the kitchen and dining room, one side another table for eating and a sitting area. I hd my hubby contract some cupboards for the dining area to match the kitchen cupboards he made years before. One is deep underneath and I have my three machines in there (2 regular sewing machines and a serger) it rolls out for easy access. There is a row of cupboards on the bottom and then a formica countertop and then a row of cabinets above. I have fabric and projects in one above cabinet and on the counter, piled up to the top cabinet with projects in different stages of completion.

All the rest of my fabric is in rubbermaid containers in the garage and a small amount on the rocking chair in my bedroom.

Like Kathie and Carol Sue, I can't wait for my very own space, but this works for now. My kids know where I am, I am accessible (good and bad) and I can cook at the same time as working on projects. When I wake in the night, I can do a few stitches while waiting to get back to sleep.

I don't know how women do it who don't create. What do they do with their time and spaces? Oh, maybe their homes are neat and clean. :-)

I will take a picture later too, but for now I will try and describe it. I actually have two rooms. When we bought the house, we bought it because it had this great room off the master bedroom that the previous owners built on as a hot tub/ sauna room. I was going to move in there for my business - and my DH (bless his heart) said why don't we take a smaller bedroom for our master and then I could have both rooms (connected) for my business. So in the master bedroom, I have my cutting table, computer desk, and shelves and in the room off the master, is my sewing machine, serger, TV, sewing rocker, shelves, 3/4 bath and the sauna room, which I use for fabric storage. It's perfect because the whole room is done in cedar, so everything smells good and I don't have to worry about insects, etc. plus there are three skylights in it, so the light is great. Oh, and also there is a little propane fireplace in there for winter. I need to paint the master/cutting room, as it is pink (yuck) but it'll wait.

I'll try and post the only picture I have of the room where I have my machine. You can't see the machine in the picture - it would be in the lower left hand corner. If you look closely at the white shelf you can see some of the little girls hats I make to sell.

(Can you tell our dauschunds run the house?)
This picture was taken when we were just moving in - the room is MUCH fuller and WAY messier now. Of course, I do have that sauna room (to the right of the little stove) for storage, so it does contain some of the chaos! I took this picture standing in the doorway between my cutting room and sewing room.

After years and years of dreaming and wishing for a space of my own I am now a very happy girl with what I call "Local 106" in my very own backyard. It's 16 X 20 building with a 4 foot porch on the front. I finally have my very own darkroom. I like digital...it's just not the same as watching an image appear in a pan of chemicals. I'm thrilled to be able to work in the darkroom in my pj's. I have moved my sewing machine out there along with my drafting table...last night I was able to do yoga...it was lovely...I would post an image here of the outside...can't seem to figure out just how to do that...oh, and it has a powder room...thanks to my husband...when I was planning this he reminded me that I am not getting any younger and that I probably would not want to be running through the yard and into the house everytime nature calls...gotta love'em don't ya?
I will do more research and see if I can fiqure out posting images.

these were taken awhile ago and is actually going to be moved to downstairs very soon as the fourth bedroom upstairs now belongs to someone else and the basement is going to be the craft and play area and the wall in the livingroom that divides the current craftroom and the livingroom will be torn down to make the livingroom bigger, but here is my space now...
