I have been having trouble for years with places that get like a boil and very sore. This past year I had one on my stomach and finally had to go to the doctor. She sent me home to do hot compresses and antibiotic ointment. A year later I had another bout with one in the very same spot. Now I have smaller places around the original, like it is spreading. Went to the doctor today and I have a staph infection. He put me on very strong antibiotics especially for deep skin infections. I know that I need to take the medicine because staph is dangerous but the pharmicist said that the medication will probably give me stomach and intestinal problems. It just frustrates me that I have to take something that is going to totally destroy all the good bacteria in my system along with the bad!

Okay -- I'm done whining now!

I'm with Jenny. Staph can be VERY serious and if you don't take care of it you could end up hospitalized! Please take the medicine! The stomache problems will be a small price to pay compared to how it could be! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Kay did they do a swab and culture of one of the sores? This sounds very similar to something I had a few years ago and I was told also that I had a staff infection and given strong antibiotics and told to disinfect everything, etc. I got a second opinion, and they were sebaceous cysts and not staff at all. I did have them surgically excised and never had a reoccurance. Just something to consider.
If you do end taking the antibiotics, acidophilus will help to replace some of the good bacteria in your intestines and help to avoid the some of the obvious side effects.
Wishing you well,
Di

Kay, major bummer, when I have to take antiboitics I become the yogurt eating queen. I have digestive track challengs so antibotics are the pits but doing the yogurt really helps.
Praying for you. Staff is no fun!!!!

KAy - oh my gosh - I am glad you saw the doctor, and eat yogurt and pro-biotics and that will help you handle the meds. The important thing is to kill the staph infection. Praying for you!

Staph is not fun! Beleive it or not some essential oils can be just as effective as antibiotics! (http://tahilla.typepad.com/mrsawatch/mrsa_wounds_essential_oils/ --- try googling Essential Oils and MRSA for others - the links wouldn't work when I tried to cut and paste.)

I hope the moderators won't kick me off here for this but if you are interested email me privately and we can talk - I am more than willing to help/find someone in your area who does Young Living (Thieves, Tea Tree, Thyme, etc. Young Living is different than the ones at your local store). If you've already started the antibiotics then continue them, eat lots of yogurt and probiotics and apply the oils topically!

Best of luck!

Holly

Thanks girls for your prayers and advice. I started the antibiotics last night. My tummy is already not feeling well but I will endure it because I know how dangerous staph is. The doctor said what I have is a carbuncle (not sure if that's the right spelling) and it has turned into staph. I've had these things off and on for 20 years but nothing like this. I have probiotics here that I gave Steph when she was on antibiotics so I'll start taking them. I called the pharmacist and he said to take them two hours after I take the medication. Otherwise the meds will kill the pro-biotics!

Kay-

I hope you get over this quickly! Staph is really scary (as everyone has said) and I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Luckily we have the probiotics and the knowledge of how important they are is now wide spread enought that hopefully you can minimize the damage of those meds. *hugs* Hopefully this will pass quickly!

Our daughter was hopitalized with a staph infection for 7 days. They put in a feeding tube last February since she dosen't eat. She was in the hospital overnight for observation but didn't give her antibiotics right after surgery. Within 48 of coming home she had a 105 fever and we took her to the emergency room. They cultured it and it was staph. She was at the childrens hospital for 7 days with an IV drip of antibiotics. It's pretty scary thing and to think she got it during her surgery. They said that almost never happens but my brother who is a doctor says infections happen alot more than we think. I hope all goes well and those yucky antibiotics kill all the staph bacteria.

Kate -- I am so glad to hear from you and so sorry that you're having to endure all this illness. I have been praying for you every day. I have been faithful in taking my medicine although it makes my stomach upset every time I do! But the staph is getting so much better! I must have had this for some time and didn't realize it. Today is the first day that I've felt pretty good and did go back to work today. Had to get myself better in time for Patricia's tea tomorrow night.

Keep taking your antibiotics. Staph is nothing to mess with. Just heard about an eighteen year old, otherwise healthy girl who died from an staph infection that was misdiagnosed by the college health service. Very sad.

My daughter has been on antibiotics several times for repeat ear infections. I give her acidophilus in her milk or juice, feed her lots of yogurt with active live cultures, and have given her a natural yeast product called FLorastor mixed in applesauce or juice.

Good luck and glad to here you are getting better.

I wasn't born in a barn, but I was raised in one.

Don't worry girls, if that staph infection is not gone by tonight's tea, I'm going to beat it out of her.

Carol Sue is so right. The yogurt does help. But you got to eat lots of it with active cultures...you will be killing it almost as fast as you are putting it in. But in the long run it very well may help! And certainly wont hurt.
