Question....what's the deal with the diatomaceous earth? Why is it so hard to find the garden type. Our hardware has the pool type only. Where do you all find yours, besides on-line stores?

This is better late than never, but you should be able to find diatomaceous earth at a feed store, or a TSC if you have one close. There are SO many wonderful uses for it!!

My mom caught my husband putting salt on the MASSIVE slugs we have outside of our house and she freaked out on him. She hates to see anything suffer...sigh. It didn't actually kill them though...it made them get really watery and goopy..but then they recovered and crawled off. Who knows, maybe they died later? I'm willing to try the grapefruit idea though!

Last week we got some rain and tons of these nasty little black slugs came out. My poor daugther stepped on one and it stuck between her toes!!! She screeched and wouldn't stop screaming, she was so freaked out. I felt so bad. Didn't realize how hard it would be to help her. In the end, we soaked her foot, scrubbed with a washcloth, used two kinds of soap, baking soda, salt and peroxide. It was truly nasty, all the while the her tears were flowing. It wouldn't come off, and was like stepping in tar balls! When it was all over, I then had trouble getting the slime and yuck out of the tub. All this before nine am. My poor little munchkin. As for getting rid of the buggers, I use the beer trick in the garden, works great.

Oh Beverly, I did the same with my boys. They loved being on slug patrol. It was the one chore they were eager to get started! And it kept the slugs down. I haven't seen too many of them this year, though. Thankfully!

I am excited for summer to try out these ideas. I find that we have a alot of slugs and this year with a garden in the works I will need to make sure to keep them at bay. |
