My daughter is pregnant with her first and doesn't want stretchmarks like dear old mom. I have them almost from neck to knee. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was blessed to never have a single stretch mark. My twin daughters, though, seemed prone to get them. They use cocoa butter lotion and I think it has helped them a lot. Just a thought. Tell your daughter congratulations. My second daughter is due to have a little boy in two weeks! Can't wait to meet him! Susan

Stretch Marks are a combination of several things. First and foremost is genetics. So if you have/had them- She probably will to.

Secondly- Good hydration. Skin which is hydrated stretches easily and doesn't break down as easily.

Third- good nutrition and vitamins.

But the big thing is genetics. All the creams, lotions and potions won't help if your body is predisposed to stretch marks.

However Vitamin E Oil has mine fade since Nora's birth. Good luck becoming a Grandma! How Exciting!

I used cocoa butter on my tummy and didn't get any stretch marks in that area, however, I didn't think about putting anything on my boobs and sadly they are marked for life!!! So the moral of the story is, "Remember your boobs ladies"!!! Lu

I think that Alee is right.

I was always rubbing Olive Oil all over my belly to prevent them. After three children, I don't have any stretch marks but then, neither did my mother.

I agree with Lu, rubbed my tummy nightly with baby oil and not a single stretch mark, didn't think about my boobs and they are covered with stretch marks. congratulations to you and your daughter.

Tell her to tell her hubbie that foot rubs prevent stretch marks and he has to give them often throughout the day for it to work. That being said I got them on my hips and breasts because I paid alot of attention to oiling my belly and nothing else. Lots of massages thats what I would perscribe, it may not work but it will sure feel good. Ask one of the doulas Tasha or Mima they would probably have some good advice. But I do know if they are still pink or red you can get rid of them if they turn white they are here to stay.

I had twins, and being only a little over 5 feet tall, I obviously had a HUGE stomach and LOTS of stretch marks. Since my dad is a dermatologist I thought he would have a magic formula for me; he didn't. He said that if a woman has the type of skin that is pre-disposed to stretch marks, she will get them, no matter what she uses. Having said that, he did agree that it was wise to keep the skin well-hydrated, but emphatically stated not to spend lots of money on expensive creams and lotions that claim to prevent stretch marks. Women who use those and say they never had a stretch mark, probably wouldn't get stretch marks anyway, due to genetics.

One trick for hydrating skin is that after a bath or shower, rub on the lotion while your skin is wet. It seems to "trap" the moisture.

I have them. I didn't get any new ones with Zoe. I did everything I could not to get them but I got them anyway. Short of having good genes, you really cant do anything to prevent them. You can probably lessen their effect with good hydration inside and out, but you may still get them.

I think it's all about the genes. My mom has them and all of my 3 sisters have them but I don't--and I have 4 kids. Mom said her mother doesn't have them. I have 2 girls--one has them, one doesn't. I do agree with the good hydration and skin lubrication though. I think it helps plus not gaining a tremendous amount of weight.

This is probably way more than you want to know about me, but let it be a warning to any of your teenage daughters who might be starting on an eating disorder. I have never been pregnant, but I was anorexic at one point and now I have stretch marks on my boobs. Can't wear low cut tops or bathing suits at all. Isn't that weird that you can get stretch marks from losing weight? Actually they didn't appear until I gained the weight back. Hmmm...maybe I should try to starve myself again and they would go away? Just kidding.

Ladies Alee is right.... they are genetic. You either will get them or not. There are many things that will help the itch... but the only remedy for them is plastic surgery.

Trust me if the pharmaceutical companies haven't figured it out and patented it... there is not a cure to be found.
