Been thinkin about this for a couple of days how important it is for
woman to connect with each other. That when my grandmother was young, they had potlucks, quilting bees, hands on helping each other.
So here we are in this day and age doing the same thing just a bit differently. We use the technology that we have to have quilting, stitching, across the fence on the internet. Yet it is still women connecting with women that is needed. Sharing our ups and downs, where our hearts are at and asking questions like our grandmothers did. Wish mine was still around to share this with, she would have loved it.
I appreciate every one of you and the things that you share, they enrich my life and make it better. Just thought I should let y'all know.
Carol Sue

Enjoying the moments.

C.S.,
What a sweet sentiment, and you are right, in todays husslebussle society, women need to stay connected, after all, we are the "apron strings that keep families tied together". And we need the support that we glean from friendships both near & far, old & new.
And let's not forget to pass on to our daughters a love of gardens, ceativity, friendships & faith.
Good night CarolSue, sweet dreams.

Women ROCK!!! I am seriously going to start a women's get together when I get to Texas. I would like to get some of the younger crowd in on it. Women have such power if we just learn to capture it!!!

Cheers,

I have started a meetup.com group in my area..a Stay at Home mom's meetup. You can do the same at meetup.com to start a group in your area. It does cost to start it/like $45 for 3 months.
Our first meet and greet is this Friday at a local park...wish me luck.
I need friends locally as I don't have any here.
I tried leaving the Mary Jane's cards at my local feed store but no one ever responded, even placed an ad in the local advertiser and noone from my area signed up here:0(
So..I decided I'd do the meetup.com thing and hopefully that will generate some interest..so far I have 7 women signed up for it, and at least 3 have rsvped that they'll be meeting me and my kids at the park.
If this doesn't pan out for me ..I think I will resign myself to the fact that maybe..just maybe I have cooties after all...ha. ..(but I will never be convinced that that is the case)If it doesn't work out I honestly don't know what else I will do to try to make friends around here..I guess I'll rejoin the garden club or something..I dunno.
But hopefully a few of these gals that show up on Friday will have the beginnings of the farmgirl mentality and I can help to cultivate that....and make a friend or two along the way:0)

It really is great to have such ready access to a visit given how hectic it is balancing my load (job, mom, wife, farmer). It has brought me so much peace and happiness to sit with a cuppa and "chat" like we all should do, like women used to do. Big hug to all of you.

We make a difference.

One of my friends from Wyoming recently came out to visit me and to meet Nora. We were talking about this exact same thing! I think it was easier for women in years past to make and keep friends. You were raised and lived in a certain community your whole life. Now in our modern society, we grow up in one (or many) place and go to school in another, then live our adult life in another. We might make friends at each place, but when we move, those friendships are weakened and lose a lot of their power. Even through email- it just isn't the same as sharing so much of your life with someone in person.

So I really appreciate this forum. We share so much of our day here together- I feel like this is a community in of itself. And the great thing is- no matter how many times I move or where I go- You ladies are still here! *hugs!*

Thanks for the great topic Carol Sue!

When I came here Carol Sue that is exactly what I was looking for. A group of kind gentle-spirited women, who were nonjudging and have the same values as me. I am young(27) but have always felt beyond my years like I was born in the wrong time frame. I always craved to be with other women but never fit in anywhere. I really feel like I have found friends here. I have never met any of you in person( will today though Hi Kristy!!)but feel somewhat bonded to you all. I dont really have any "girlfriends" Cause all my friends are still very young at heart and drama filled. I wear aprons and cook and bake ALOT. Infact they all call me BettyCrocker. My Aunt is the one person here besides dh that I can confide in. (I am gonna miss her like hell when we move). So anyway I can relate I think it is important for women to get together and have just them time, to do nothing or everything they could want to do. I always thought I dont need anyone but me, but I am begining to think that I was wrong, women need women to grow and to reach their potential. We give each other inspiration, so many of you here have given that to me in just the short time I have been here and I hope to someday have contact with all of you!

Amen to all the above and what will be written below my name. How blessed I am to wake up each morning to all of you! I do have the dear, caring friends like my Mother had in her day...all of you, my Farmgirl friends! As I have said before, my life has changed forever because of you! Thank You!

ok so i am officially saying that we shall start a potluck club in the spokane area as soon as firemama gets up here. since grace will already be here. of course women only and the kiddos are welcome, i would love to sit around an old quilt frame and hand stitch a quilt together with several of you. i think it would be a lot of fun. by the end of our several potlucks i think we could all have a quilt top handstiched by eachother. Just an Idea!!!!!

Yes I would miss you all if my computer blew up, you pop into my head everyday and I have never met you. I too miss the small town I grew up in, you knew everyone, and people were always stopping by the farm. I have more friends now then I have had in a while, but nothing like small town connections.
I think this is my small town connection with women, I mean who else would care what I got at the thrift, or that my first pair of knitted socks was a big deal?

Well if you are even more SE than Michelle- then you are even closer to us Moscow Farmgirls! :)

I would join an Inland Empire Farmgirl Chapter! It would be fun I think! Can Nora be a member too? :)

What a lovely post, CS! And while I tend to be a rather infrequent poster, I do stop by here nearly every day to see what's new and how everyone is doing; it reaffirms much of what I do, believe in, and think, in a time when our "farmgirl" way of being can seem rather scarce or a bit lost in the shuffle. to you all!

I agree. What a wonderful post. Such a beautiful sentiment and very true. This is our backyard picket fence where we go to talk to a good neighbor about everyday life. We are so blessed to able to be a part of this FarmGirl connection. Warm hugs to all of you.

Peace and love.

ok so it will be the chapter of togetherness, area does not matter all welcome. hmmm.... will have plenty of get togethers but for the really long distance members we could have a once a year retreat or campout. this is going to be so much fun and i will start it up but how about in september girls when i dont have the kiddos home all the time and am able to get organized and think without interuption. i will need a co-leader though( hey firemama wannna volunteer, by the way i dont think you know but we are the same age. i saw your age from a different posting) I will have news soon as of why i will really need a co-leader.

I have been thinking for the past few years, since I started working from home, that I really need to get out and meet up with other women. I remember, as a child, my mother used to participate in "cafe klatches" with other women in the neighborhood. Most of the regulars were mothers of similar age children. Since we don't have children, and are now more senior members of the neighborhood, we don't really share a lot in common with our neighbors. I think back on my mother's social circle and think how neat it would be to have something like that. Although I'm quite happy to be employed from the home, the isolation is sometimes irritating to say the least.

I never considered that this community is the same thing! When I think about it, I feel as close to the wonderful girls on this forum as my mother did with her cafe klatch :)
