for car food/snacks to take on our trip to the cabin. We'll be in the car 14 or 15 hours and I'm tired of the same old snacks I ususally take (fruit, crackers, etc.) Anybody have any new ideas for me to dazzle DH with? We try to eat pretty healthy.

Car snacks a hard topic. =)
Ours are typically grapes, chips, dried fruit, nuts, etc.

On the creative side.... how about roll-ups? When my daughter and I went on our 28 mile hike the begining of June, we made roll-ups in spinach tortillas with turkey, lettuce, etc. I made them the night before and they were great even after hiking 15 miles with them in a back pack. You could put things like cream cheese, lettuce, sprouts, cranberry sauce, dried cranberries, meat, etc.

I like wheat thins and strawberry cream cheese. Then it's not like dip that can tip over in the car.

Rice krispie squares
granola bars
beef jerky

All things you can still make "healthy" - to a point.

Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth!

DD, my sis and I are constantly on the road going to DD's sheep shows, so we've gotten pretty good at eating in the truck.

DD likes trail mix with nuts, fruit, raisins. Sometimes I mix in a bag of M&Ms just to add a little treat. And she is rarely without a box of Triskets. Since I'm usually coming from work I want something more substantial. We've mastered eating tuna salad, egg salad and chicken salad with crackers or chips (the Scoops chips work well); and in the colder months we bring warm tuna casserole.

If I make sandwiches, I don't pile them too high and I cut them into 1/4 so they're easier to manage. We always have an assortment of fruit too.

Auntie's favorite is a soft cheese like Brie or Pate on french bread.

I guess we just eat what we want and forget about the fact we're eating in a truck.

Safe travels to you

I like the roll-up/wrap sandwich idea.

Granola Bars
Fruit Leather
Homemade Cookies (crips and gooey)
Rice Krispies
Cut up veggies and individual baggies of ranch dressing
Juice and water in small jars or bottles
Finger pasta like cheese ravioli and sauce in little baggies. (I don't mind pasta cold) :)
Yogurt
Homemade Jo-jos (Potatos quartered and baked with or without seasoning until done- I don't mind these cold)
Baked or BBQ chicken

We don't care if we are in the car. We just pack extra napkins or wet wipes and vacuum out that car when we get wherever! We always pack a cooler and have it with in arm's reach. The trip from Moscow to Wyoming gets really long. The only fast food we like to eat on the way is Taco Johns!

These are all great ideas. I'm going to go get some of the missing ingredients to make some of them on Friday - have em ready for Sat. morning. I guess I'll have to add that to my grocery budget this week for the grocery challenge!
