Hi Tracey, I was going to e-mail you but things got hectic here. The horse is doing OK. I was worried about him because he is inside an arena but in a round pen but it is so dark in there. He is not at my house so of course I think nothing is right. But I went there today and Kylee went in and was able to get the rope and talk to him and rub his shoulder and his face and then lead him for a short while. He is very docile and shows no fear in his eyes. He always faces her with ears forward, watching and listening. She moves him and then when she stops he turns and faces her. I think she is doing OK. I just hate to see him inside and if we would bring him up here he would be outside in a small pen with a shelter. What is best I don't know.
Alee, I just have the picture I posted earlier, I think. I will get more and post them. MB

Alee The horse is at a place that has an arena and good round pen so the girls thought it would be better there and Kylee could go over there after school but now school is out and Kylee and her Mother live here so we will see what goes next. MB

Glad to hear she can get up and rub on him a bit, Marybeth. He was a pretty jumpy bugger while at the adoption, so nice to hear he's settling down for her. Let her know there's no rush, and that the foundation of trust is the best thing she can do for him. Once he's completely comfortable, the rest will be a piece of cake for him.

As for keeping him at your place, as long as the round pen is six feet high, there's no reason not to. BLM regs are pretty strict concerning height for horses that can't be caught. Once she's able to walk up to him without grabbing onto the lead, a shorter fence will be fine. Has she started giving him grain? Even if it's just a little bit in a pan, if he begins to associate the sound of the grain bucket with a treat, he'll be easier to catch should he get loose. Of course, I don't need to tell you that

I've just got two pics of your lovely boy from the adoption; he's a real looker!

He has a very Araby looking head, at least from these photos. I know the mustangs do have quite a bit of arab blood and this guy sure shows it! How many hands high is he?

They tend to have more spanish blood than arab; dishy faces aren't that common. From what I recall, this boy had a fairly new style qh look to his face. It's that broad between the eyes and small muzzle that lend to the arab like look from this angle, I think. I just remember thinking that he was a very nicely put together boy, and I love his butt!

I don't know how tall he was; most of the horses down there were about 15 hands, so he's probably in that range. Perhaps MB will pop back in and have that info?

A lot of the spanish horses had a lot of arab blood in them, so that is what I meant by the mustangs having arab blood. But whatever his lineage is, he sure is a sweet looker!

Just eyeballing him I would say he is close to 15 hands. Since he doesn't know what grain is he isn't interested, but that may change. I think Kylee is doing great with him. She is going to a rodeo in Darrington this weekend and on the 4th at Sedro-Wooley.(barrel racing) with her other horses not the new one. MB
