We have a boxer puppy and have yet to name her. Poor thing is nameless. I've come up with a few, Dixie, Heidi, Hilda, (something German??? maybe) Lala, Lady, naaahhhh. I love a name that has loads of personality. But this time I'm just stumped. Can't think of a thing. Years ago we had a dog named "Belvedere", we have a german shepherd I named "Ambush", just some examples to help you help me come up with an awesome name!!! Can't wait to hear what you all come up with!!! Tracey, where are you at? I know you'll have a good one! She has a great personality, she's sweet and playful, and very curious. She's very loving and loves attention. She is very smart too!

Layla (Ali)...she's one pretty gal, quite the looker, and quite the boxer, too
When did she arrive? We've always had names that somewhat indicate when they joined the family. Finnigan, our pit mix joined around St. Pat's day, Daisy, our beagle, in the summer, Eli and Rose are different...Rose was named after the song "Whole Lot of Rosie" by some metal band that I don't know (thank you, dh) because she's sooo large for a female german shepherd--I actually call her Blitzkreig :) ..Eli was named after Elie Weisel, the writer and concentration camp survivor because of the shelter environment he came from and what he experienced prior to arriving at the shelter.
If she came in June, what about June Bug? Or

We got her about 3 weeks ago. We actually found her at the ball park. Have looked for someone who lost her, no adds in the paper, no body has called police dept. and no missing signs in the local stores. She was covered with fleas, you could see them crawling all over her and they were the biggest fleas I had ever seen. I don't think she was taken care of. You can tell she is full blooded without a doubt. We have to have her tail docked and her ears done. She's a real cutie. My dad mentioned this name too, so maybe it will be Layla, I'll have to think on it.

The first name that comes to mind - "Sister Agnes" (Like an old nun!) (Not sure where that one came from, but it was the first thing I thought....)
Our boxer's name was "Grandma" but we got her at an advanced age... It made for some funny stories - letting her out to pee then yelling "Hey Grandma! Are you doing peeing in the front yard yet? Hurry up, it's cold!"

How about Casey (at the bat...since you found her at the ball park) that's what I first thought of when you said you found her there.

I seem to name alot of my pets or animals either after the people i got them from.. (If i know their names..) or the place they came from.. or something funny about them.. for instance.. The stray cat in the yard just had a litter of kittens.. Zoey took one home with her but that left three little boys.. two of them look so much alike we call them the twins.. I was leaning towards something Egyptian.. but as time & translation passes.. they went from Ramsis to now Ramsey.. & Lokey.. But the one long hair of the three struck me as a little french man with his funny little mustache.. so i was going with Pasqaul or Francois....or something..but..my husband from West Virginia was really going to have issues speaking with Francois.. who has now become Frank..
Once my husband while on a business trip out of state.. brought back a pair of Silkie Chickens for me.. From Augusta Georgia..well.. he was working there.. but the Chickens he actually drove over to Carolina to get.. so.. The Hen became "Carolina" & My Rooster was Augusta.. or Augie.. See what I do? The neighbors this weekend have decided that I just have to have a Rooster.. they are "holding" him for me until I can figure out where he can go.. But i have named him.. Their Last name is Lentz.. so he of course is Lenny..
My husband picked up a stray dog once in front of these apartments that were called The Reminigton.. we named her Remy..
My son brought me home a piglet from his Ag Teacher.. i named him naturaly.. "Mr.Brown"
We had a dog that someone dropped of in front of the farm once that the kids actually saw the truck.. so she was named "Chevy".. Another dog that had been abandoned at the gas station down the road that my husband finaly loaded up & brought home.. he was named "Tank"
So.. you've heard enough of our Silly names.. But it's alot of fun to come up with their names.. & the way we do it.. we always remember where we got most of the critters from or from who!

I like the name "Bella" for some reason. Kind of brings out her loving feminine traits. Or if she's kind of free spirited something like "Sasha" These also keep the german aspect I think.

Speaking of naming animals with location names....
A couple of years ago we ended up finding a bunch of kittens and all of them ended up staying with us...
One, found in on the roof (and who happens incidently to LOVE climbing trees - she's fearless) became "Ginger" (for her color) but is just as often called "Birdie".
One was seen stranded in the middle of an eight lane freeway. DH raced across four lanes to grab her, then raced back across. Her name is "Freeway," and her nickname "Freebie" reminds us how "the most expensive kitten is a free one..."
"Grandma" our boxer was named thus because she was more than 10 years old when DH found her. She lived another 8 years or so after that and her name was PERFECT for her. Incontinent, arthritic, cranky, slept a lot, unconditional love, and very slow but sure could move fast when her favorite humans visited.

Oh, a boxer, you will love her. My daughter raises boxer and they are undoubtedly the sweetest dogs. I have always liked Moxley, and I love the name Wheezer from Steel Magnolias, and then there is Shelby also. I would bet there is a good Irish name for someone who was lost and is now found. Anyway, be sure to let us know what you decide. Kathy

How about "Dug Out" since she was found at the ball park?
or Noel (Don't know why- just like it I guess!) I like Layla too. Hmm, I will have to ponder some more!
I named my first dog Seanee and my second dog is named Obsidian Sky Demonicus (the last as a joke) but we just call her Sky.

Oh Bluewren you made me laugh so hard with Grandma and peeing in the front yard!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mikki, how great that you and your family take care of the animals that need rescueing and provided a home for her. Since you found her at the ball park, she could be Short Stop, or Third Base or like alee said Dug out. Whatever you come up with it will be perfect. Carol Sue
Life is short, enjoy every moment. |

Sue, I emailed you! I love the name "dug-out", that is too cute. I thought about diamond since we found her at the ball park, but I don't really like it although my baseball player son does, lol. This is fun! Keep going!!! We'll name her yet!

I train dogs and some cute names we have in class right now are Cinderella and Sherade(not sure if that's how you spell it). There's some people that like boating so they named there 2 porteguese water dogs after parts on a boat. Do you guys have any hobbies like that, that you could name her after?

With her history and where you found her I figure she is in "A League of Her Own", did you see that movie? How wonderful that she will have a loving home with you. I seem to be on a movie theme here because now thinking of her being a boxer I thought of "Million Dollar Baby"...hmmm!or maybe since she is a champ she could be Champagne!!!LOL Anyway, I am enjoying reading everyone's suggestions! peapodjane |

I usually name my dogs neat old people names. Right now I have Frank, Stella and Maggie (Maggie came with her name, but it fits her) and my cats are Pumpkin, Alice and Fiona...The sheep are Juliet and Trixie and the angora goat is Pearl. Our rabbit is Toby. Then of course there is Mona the cow and her calf Evelyn. Hmmmmm, a boxer..I love them by the way....Sheba sounds like a boxer name to me.

How about "Diamond" since you found her at the park and she seems to be a diamond in the rough. Or another choice could be "Babe".
