I got a really good deal on a bunch of packaged seeds in a garden center that was closing. The packets are stamped 2007 so I know they are this years.

Too late to plant this year so any idea on how to store them for next year? It is getting pretty hot here so I don't want to leave them in the garage/shed.

Would you put them in the fridge or freezer? The packets have never been opened and they are both veggies and flowers.

Thanks for your help.

May God bless those who love the soil,

Patsy

I just store my seeds in a tin under my sink in the kitchen. Seems to keep just fine. I've kept seeds like that for several years now..and they still germinate.

I have one of those plactic shoe boxes, type things. I keep all my seeds in there, and I will throw in one of those little packets you sometimes get in things, that are supposed to suck up any moisture. I have no idea what they are called!! Michele

Seeds need an even temperature and low humidity to remain viable. Putting in an airtight container (like a mason jar) in a cool dark spot is usually okay, especially for purchased seeds that you plan to keep for just a season or two. If you want to get into more long-term storage, I'd recommend reading "Seed to Seed" by Susanne Ashworth. It's very detailed. Most libraries and bookstores should have it.
