Well I feel like quite the farmgirl. Last night I baked a batch of dill bread, this morning I went and got groceries to make a hearty pasta vegetable dish to take over (with some dill bread) to a lady in my moms group who just had a little one; at the store I found a cute rosebud flannel, and knew I had just the right pink flannel at home to turn this into a blanket for her new baby. Sure enough they went beautifully together. So while the fabric washed I got the stew prepared and simmering, fed ds his lunch, put the fabric in the dryer and got ds down for his nap then I serged the edges with a decorative thread. whew.
now to clean up the kitchen...
I will post a picture of the blanket, but not the dishes

yes, maryjane, it was won of those rare days when things go right. more often my day goes like the children's book, "the horrible no good very bad day" (where everything that could go wonky does). I've been in a funk recently, since my ds was teething molars, I've been getting things together for my craft booth at a local store as well as working part time. so it's been a hard couple weeks. I was so delighted that I could pull everything together today!

Lizabeth that is a precious blanket! I remember having doll blankets out of flannel that were crocheted on the edges. I know they were hand made but I don't know who did them as I don't recall any relatives that crocheted. Your blanket brought back lots of memories!

What a beautiful baby blanket, Lizabeth. The new little one will be so happy in it and when it grows up it will know that a very special person made it just for her. And what a productive day you had!!! Once in a great while I get a burr in my bonnet and go great guns too, but not very often. Great job.

Wow, great day...and the blanket is beautiful. You must have one heck of a serger.....great stitches! I love soft flannel baby blankets. Yours looks so soft and cuddly.
Is that what my granny used to call: Dilly Bread? With cottage cheese as one of the ingredients and then you butter and salt the crust when it is fresh out of the oven?

Yes, I have two different dill bread recipes, both with cottage cheese so they are high protein. I actually like dill bread toast with butter and strawberry jam--something about the combination of savory and sweet.
Oh, my serger! I love love my serger. It is a viking 936. http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us/882.htm There was a HUGE sewing expo this spring and I contacted one of the local shops as to whether they had any class room models... sure enough! So I was able to get a great deal on the price, and three classes. This serger is incredible. It has a computerized sewing advisor--you simply tell it what fabric you are sewing and what stich you'd like and it tells you what settings to use; then it's just a matter of tweaking till the stich is as it should be. "tweaking" can be a 2 second adjustment, or half an hour depending on the material and the thread. The thread selected makes a big difference in the finshed look.
I had always considered sergers shortcut machines (sorry to any fellow owners) but I've now seen that in combination with a sewing machine you really can do anything. Did you know a serger can even fold and stitch a hem while attaching lace? I just did this on a set of pillowcases.

i have a serger and never use it because i dont know how, i cant get the tension right.
any suggestions would be helpful
