in your area? I just did my first summer show for the year and the young moms were coming in and telling me that I hit the nail on the head with colors in some of my new baby quilts. It seems regional to me - here in Washington they tell me moms are decorating baby girls rooms with pink and green and pink and brown, and little boys rooms in blue and brown. What's new in your neck of the woods? |

I don't know that it's necessarily a "color trend", but out here, people seems to be wearing the washed-out-drab scheme.
In crafting - my colors couldn't be farther off. It seems that "fruit tones" are hot right now - raspberry, green apple, banana, blueberry. But equally so are earthy, washed-out-drab.
Those sound like great color combinations you're working with. Got a blog where you post digipics? ~ K

OMG I forgot, my friend in jersey is redoing her kitchen Lime Green... Looks like my polka dot bags are right on target. The Baby girl pink and Chocolate Brown and Baby blue and and chocolate brown were about 2 yrs ago. What was last year? Was it the Hot pink and orange and blue & hot green?
I feel like that Suave commercial... where the woman goes down hill circling the drain and suave makes her beautiful and rested again. Then again I no longer live in NYC or Philadelphia and have grown fat living in the midwest.

I attended a fiber arts conference several years back (now let me see, was that in Minneapolis, by the handweaver's guild, or MAFA (mid-atlantic fiber association????). Anyway I remember one lady who was an especially dynamic speaker talking about the color forecasts and how the designers across many industries get together and decide what the colors are going to be - I guess so that everything coordinates?
Anyway I think this is the organization she talked about in her presentation http://www.fashiontrendsetter.com/content/color_trends.html -
edited to add: oh geez, I just looked back at the other posts and I see that someone else posted the same site! Must be a good one!

Kalyn, I've had the same experience you have. We in the north central US are into the earthy colors (which I prefer). I've seen a lot of the bright colors in apparel, but its just not me. I don't really even care to craft with them, maybe an accent, tho. I'm happy with the brown! I thought I'd never see it again after the 70s!

There is still a lot of the pale greens, pinks and browns here in Jersey. Not to much of the really bright colors yet. The raspberry and limes were big last year here. Some country blue and cranberry still seems to be popular too.

I personally love baby pink and a nice charcoal grey together.

I crocheted a baby blanket for a friend with those colors. I think I will have to make Nora one! The pink was a beautiful baby pink and the charcoal grey was nice and smokey with a few black threads in it and some silvery grey ones in it as well. I just loved that blanket!

This is going to sound dingy, but usually I start falling in love with something and I can't find it anywhere. Then as soon as I'm over my infatuation, it's ALL over the place in mass, highly commercialized quantities!!!! Then I'm just sick of it and want something else.
Does this happen to anyone else? I don't know if I just don't realize I'm picking up on trends right at their beginning or if I'm just into stuff as it hits and floods the market!
Orange is really really big here. It's a hot color. I bought an orange purse and people gush over it. I get complemented on it by people I know as well as strangers.
Brown has really swept the nation in popularity. But, black and white is really vogue.

I went to Ben Franklin Crafts today and they had what they said was the hottest Moda fabric trend. It was brown, tourquise and orange big flowers -uggggggggggly!! Really looked like something that was around when I was a kid. It was ugly then and it's ugly now. If someone comissioned a baby quilt out of that stuff I'd have to have them arrested or committed!! |

Oh that fabric sounds hideous! I didn't think there were ben franklins around any more in this area... oh I just checked and there is in Yelm! I used to go to ben franklins, but then the family that owned a couple stores in the Tac. area closed theirs. It is a good thing my husband has the car today :) But I'll definitely visit this weekend or monday. It would be fun to walk through a BF again, though it will probably be different since it has different owners.

We had a Ben Franklin's in my home town for a long long time! I remember spending a lot of time there with my mom. She would go look at fabric and I would go longling gush over the Breyer Horse models that they had in the toy aisle! :)

Actually the Ben Franklin that I was at was in Bonney Lake. I didn't know there was one in Yelm! That's great - I'll check it out - much closer. Heather, I went to Tacoma yesterday to talk to a lady who came into my booth at Meeker Days. She has a floral/gift shop/latte cafe in Tacoma and is featuring the work of local artists in her shop. She asked me to bring some of my things up there to sell for a 20% comission, which is not bad. I agreed and I'm taking 4 quilts, and some jackets and hats up there today. Anyway, I went over to Bonney Lake afterward because I love BF fabric selection. |
