Also called writing box or lap desk among other nic names. I bought one awhile back and finally got it in the mail. I just love it but it needs some restoration. I got it really cheap. Some of the nicer ones are really up there in price. I have a vinyl type leather look material I'm thinking about covering it with. I'm not sure yet. I'll take some before and after photos before I do anything though. It's a lovely piece. Just needs some TLC.
