We have a new rule in the house. Each person has to do 15 minutes of housework when they get up. That way the chores get done and it isn't hanging over your head the rest of the day. We aren't supposed to get on the computer or do any recreational type activities before we are done with the 15 minutes.

Last night I decided to do more because the dishes really needed to be done, and fiance came home. He started helping me clean the kitchen even though he had already done his "time" for the day.

Anyone else do something like this around the house?

Isn't it amazing what you can get done in 15 minutes?? We have rules about things like that too...the kids arn't allowed to turn on the tv at all unless their bed is made and their special chore for the week is done. I just turn on music until then. They each have a chore for the week and it alternates each Saturday morning. Works great for us. As the kids get older I am adding things. Summer is learning to help with laundry and Erin with dishes. TRavis and Dalton are learning to help more with outdoors stuff and are in charge of watering the garden each day. None of the chores really take that long if we all do our share each day..but they sure do build up if we don't!!

Well I usually end up doing more than 15 minutes, but I figured that was a good length of time for a minimum requirement. He has actually be doing really good about helping out more too.

Well my DH may have it easier or I may, it depends on how you look at it. I do most of the cleaning but he watches the little one as soon as he gets home. So I can clean and do what I need to do. It always seems like when he cleans he gets the big messes but misses the "little" details of stuff and it dosen't seem clean to me so our compromise is he watches our daughter and I get it clean the way I want it to be. I clean sections of the house at a time each day. By the time I finish the whole house it's time to start over again. :) And then there are the every day stuff like, dishes, vaccumming, picking up but the big cleaning is per room each day.

Wow! It works! I did 15 minutes of work when I woke up this morning and I feel like I accomplished so much. In 15 minutes, I was able to put on a load of wash, empty the dishwasher and make DH's lunch. It's such a good feeling to know that those little things are done so early in the day...now I won't spend the rest of the day fretting about them.

Yup I just do the 15 minutes. Thinking you have to get every thing done before you can move on can sometimes be overwhelming. I find the 15 minutes great. What I do is 5 minutes in each station! lol (kitchen, living room, bedroom) a lot can get done! Even by myself!

I really love the 15 minutes. It really has relieved a huge pressure on our household. http://flylady.com has some good tips for the 15 minute clean as well!
