Imagine my surprize...nice quiet afternoon..nothing new happening and oldest daughter runs in and says there is a huge "bubble" sticking out of the back of Mona!! I dropped what I was doing (reading) and RAN out back..yelling to the other kids.."bring towels and iodine...bring the camera...get the mollasses...go tell dad"...and all the while running out there. Well, the "bubble" had gone back in and then back out and in again..about an hour and 1/2 later watching like crazy she calved easily with no help (have I ever told you all what a PERFECT cow she is??) and guess what...its a girl!! Libbie will get to name her since she has dibs on this one. I am SO excited. I just had a feeling it was a girl this time!!! She calved 6 days early this year so I will sure be keeping that in mind. Last year I didn't have a due date. Here is first picture of them..the baby isn't even dry yet. More pictures to come..and there will be graphic birth pictures on my blog later tonight I am sure. Yeehaw!! Here she is 3 hours old:

So sweet. Your post said you got some molasses for them & that also sounds like a name that would seem to suit your calf. What a good momma! Congratulations!

Congrats to Mona, Aunt Jenny and Libbie. Beautiful calf. Aunt Jenny, if you move closer this way...we want next years calf. *smiles* We have been thinking about it for quite some time...now we are preparing for our cow addition. We were so concerned for some time on having enough space for it. And were set on a Dexter because of space issues. You have inspired us with your limited space and we are now set tht we will have a jersey. The barn is being built...so hopefully I will be able to share cow stories in the fall.

WOWEEEE!!!!! I just saw this and read an e-mail from Jenny! I can't believe it!!! I am just crazy-happy about the whole thing - somehow I just KNEW it was going to be a girl! And she'll live within visiting distance from her mama - maybe we'll have to have "cow parties!" Or farmgirl get-togethers where cows are invited, too?!?!? I am just THRILLED!!! I can hardly sit still.... Now, for a name... Any suggestions, gals? I have toyed around with naming her after my great-aunt, Bethel, or after one of my grandmothers, Evelynn or Muriel. Ideas?!?!?!
JENNY!!!! I just can hardly stand it. I MUST talk to you!!!
XOXO, Libbie

She is just cuter than a new born calf......WAIT....she is a newborn calf! Lol. Looks so soft and sweet. Makes you want to throw your arms around her and give her a big hug. Do that for me will you Jenny?
May God bless those who love the soil,
Patsy
