Hello ladies. I have a question - are any of you family herbalists or Master Herbalists? I'm very interested in taking these courses and am curious if there are any other women like that our there. If so, where did you take your courses? Thanks!

I'm neither, but you might want to check out the programs herbalist Susan Weed offers on her site, susanweed.com. I am fairly active in the forums there, and other members who have taken her courses (both correspondence and in person) rave about them.

Herbalism is one of my focuses in my midwifery studies. I am not taking courses. I own a number of books on the topic and already have a good knowledge base of a lot of herbal uses. If you have a local herbal shop, go in and ask the proprietor, they are really knowledgeable and might have some resources for you for active coursework. maria is right too...Susun Weed is a great resource as well.

Rachel,
I took the Herbalist course & am almost finished with Master Herbalist course work, from Dr. Christopher's School of Natural Healing. Before & since I have studied independantly, along with other classes that I felt prompted to take.
Currently I am taking Rapid Eye Technolgy certifacatiion course and am studying Carol Tuttle's emotional healing work.
I agree with Tasha, that Susan Weed books & website are a great resource. My other favorite authors are James Green, Rosemary Gladstar, Steven Horne & Lalitha Thomas.
I'd be happy to answer any other questions.

I've heard about the School of Natural Healing. I'm really looking in to that one. I've bought a lot of books on herbs and am always looking for new ones. I'm actually growing some herbs this year for the first time. I live in a subdivision in a suburb of Louisville, KY so I do container gardening since we're renting our house and the soil is compact and awful. The few herbs I've planted from seed are doing great thus far. I can't wait til they're ready to be clipped and dried. I really want to get some course materials because I am SOO interested in this.

Rachel, Clayton College of Natural Health offers a wonderful Family Herbalist program with lots of material and affordable payments. I have paid for the Family Herbalist and it allows you to fit the studies in with your lifestyle. You can get most of the course books cheaper if you shop online like abebooks, or amazon.com -
Susun Weed is great as is Rosemary Gladstar and don't forget Gail Faith Edwards up in Maine.
Herbalism is such a wonderful thing to learn and you never stop learning ever!

I am just finishing up my Master Herbalist program with the Australaisan College of Health Sciences in Portland OR. It is a distance learning school. I have been taking classes there for about 4 years and love it! www.achs.edu check it out. Now I am just needing to use the knowledge that I have learned in practical situations. I would like to apprentice with a working herbalist, but need to find one in my area. Good luck with your studies, if anything reading books is good and I did that (and still do) for years.
